What do you think though wargamers? Is 'HE' the way to go when you need to force your opponents to shift out of that nice bit of cover they are hunkered down in?

My regular opponent uses a heavy mortar with devastating results on near every shot. I’ve now banned him from bringing it due to him using the magic words “Firing the heavy mortar at” nearly always results in a dice roll of a 6 and my squad being removed from the table wholesale 🙂
I consider the StuH42 for all my lists. The versatility you get with howitzers are great. Not nearly as impressed with mortars.
Yeah I proxy my StuG for the StuH42 most games ;]
cracking video guys giving me a lot of Food for Thought 🙂
+1 for the StuH – and incredible troop killer
Thanks for the tutorial 🙂
StuH42, big gun and it’s a StuG, what more needs to be said!
Good point (badumtish) about forcing your opponent to move his squads simply by shooting at them, even if you don’t actually cause damage. Never quite looked at it that way. Word about the mortar vs. the howitzer (loike the 25pdr) or even howitzer on a vehicle (like the StuH): the mortar slot doesn’t compete with anything else, whilst a howitzer vies with AT and AA guns, and SPGs compete with tanks etc. Th emain drawback about mortars imho is that they can;t shoot over open sights and thus always need that 6 to hit when shooting at a new target.… Read more »
For Tank War I have a Plt of 3 SU 76s “SUKAs” 🙂 Great multi tasking vehicle.
I usually wait until the last dice out of the bag on turn 1 to fire my Mortars and LH indirectly. that way everything I am shooting has already moved. Then when it comes to turn 2 if I fire them again with my first dice out of the bag there is a good chance I will be hitting them on 5’s
Keep the BALLS rolling. Loving it!
Sherman’s 75mm get d6 HE and a med AT gun so good multipurpose workhorse vehicle…yes I too am a Sherman,Sherman,Sherman….lol The Stuh42 is brutal too, although lets not forget 105mm Sherman’s too 😉
I’m running a 105mm Vet Sherman (removed the thin sides as well)
late war german have a lot of option. sniper, mortars and flame throwers to get around the gun shield rule and are cheap choices and you should have them in your list anyway. also air and art observer can be use useful. i think your worry to much just add a 88mm flak36 to your list and place it in the very corner then see some true fear
I really like these episodes. Could you do one on Recce movement because I’m not sure I’m using it right. Plus one on transports. I play a german army in bolt action and it doesn’t seem right that my transports can’t fire their MMG after the units disembark or they have to be removed if they get to far ahead of your forces.
