Zombicide: Undead Or Alive Now Live On Kickstarter
February 19, 2021 by brennon
CMON are back on Kickstarter with another iteration of Zombicide. Zombicide: Undead Or Alive takes your zombie-slaying adventures to the Wild West where you will be getting into shootouts with ravening ghouls.
Zombicide: Undead & Alive // CMON
The game builds on the previous iterations of Zombicide with refined mechanics to turn into a fun laugh for one-to-six players. As with all of the CMON board games, it comes packed with miniatures but the other components also look very cool too. You would also imagine that over the many years Zombicide has existed they would have tightened up the mechanics a lot!
Zombicide: Undead & Alive Gameplay
This new version of Zombicide comes with classes like Gunslingers, Brawlers, the Faithful and even Townsfolk. Each class has unique abilities and you'll also be able to use fancy new items and weapons like the Gatling gun and plenty of dynamite! If you'd like to find out more then you can download and read the rulebook HERE.
Pledges & Stretch Goals
You can dive in and check out the pledge that they have to offer here...
Dead West Pledge // CMON
...and here are the Stretch Goals that have already been unlocked for the campaign. As you might have guessed, it means plenty of additional heroes.
Stretch Goals // CMON
This is another packed campaign from the team at CMON and I do like the Wild West setting. If you've maybe missed out on diving into Zombicide in the past and don't like the Modern or Medieval setting then maybe this is one you can dive in and check out. Again, I would say that if you already have a bunch of BIG board games then maybe double-check if this will see play with your group but if you don't have one then give it a peek!
Are you going to be checking out this Kickstarter?

A while back I ran a Wild West RPG and could have really used this KS back then.
Not a fan of zombiecide the game, but as a source of plastic it’s not a bad deal.
Few years back I picked up black plague and still using the minis for RPG heroes and villains.
Weren’t cmon on the verge of bankruptcy last year?
Wasn’t bankruptcy, but was an audit with issues. AFAIK, The audit hasn’t been settled yet, other than hiring a new firm (uh, huh). CMON, though, is one of the only public KS companies I know of, meaning that small companies can also have their problems they’re able to hide from backers — until the project fails. You can always be on the safe side and wait until retail.
Black Scorpion do a really great range of Wild West figures.
They also aren’t quite as cartoony as the one in this game.

They even have a few undead in there.
Not enough for a zombie horde though ..
I did shop at Black Scorpion for some miniatures. Gunfighter Ball provided others.
As I have Shadows of Brimstone I have some undead, if I need them, but it’s mostly a straight western.
The problem with this one is that everybody in europe has to pay vat. So in Finland I have to pay 24% extra…
Didn’t notice that. EU and UK. That sucks and it’s something I don’t recall from previous cmon projects.
Maybe they don’t want anyone but americans to buy their product, but it seems odd to make it customs friendly and then screw everyone for another significant amount.
Dropped my pledge. Only wanted for wild west minis as zombiecide just a dice fest with no story and minimal fun.
It’s not the companies fault. This is happening a lot more across kickstarters. Apparently their is a much bigger clamp-down on VAT across Europe with companies being required to evidence the collection and allocation.
Still be cheaper at retail with the usual 20% discount you get and free delivery.
And cmon ks tend to add plastic above all else, so gameplay does not improve.
In that case, don’t back. Some gamers want all that plastic, some don’t. I found the additional Massive Darkness I KS miniatures great for Gloomhaven and other generic fantasy games. I didn’t find the additional MD2 KS miniatures useful. So the first I backed, and the other I’ll wait for a deep discount during a holiday sale. Picked up Z:Invader:Dark and Z:Night of the Living Dead that way.
yeah … it is weird to suddenly see VAT being listed as in need of paying.
I guess the EU is treating Kickstarter as a pre-order system instead of an investment for reasons that kind of make sense.
Usually for CMON games they’ve got their own shipping hub within the EU (and now also within the UK) so the package ships from there and is classed as coming from that location. Which means the VAT is included in the initial purchase.
At least that’s been my experience, especially compared to many other Kickstarters where I’ve been hit with hefty VAT charges down the line.
The figures look exceptional.
No zombie Indians in this game though … because in a game that is a parody of all things in a zombie-invasion having a few Indian zombies is apparently ‘bad’.
Seriously … a Mexican Bandito stereotype is ok, but Indians get to be ‘realistic’ in a flockin’ boardgame filled with all sorts of zombie and western tropes ?
I find it kind of head-scratching that CMON’s owner (founder?) is Asian, its former lead game designer is black, two of its KS reps are Italian (?) with one being a woman, several sculptors are Spanish (?), and Zombicide itself was designed in Spain (?). Yet none of this is emphasized as “diversity”.
Of course, as as wanna-be game designer, I’d rather be known by my game designs than my skin color.
yeah … I know, but I’ve noticed this with every company that claimed to be ‘diverse’ and other such empty phrases. It is always a one-way street where one cult is considered ‘better’ and the rest get ignored. It’s why there is such a thing as ‘black history month’, but the Indians, Chinese, Japanese, Mexicans, Irish and others get ignored. (never mind the true acid test : change ‘black’ to ‘white’ and watch the cries of ‘racism’ flood the media … ). And all of this always assumes that American history is the only relevant bit that matters … Part… Read more »
