Revolution Games have been chatting about an upcoming game which brings World War I aerial dogfights to the tabletop. Eagles In The Sky introduces you to the dogfights, recon missions and more as World War I aircraft clash above the trenches and more during the period, all in card game form.
Eagles In The Sky // Revolution Games
Eagles In The Sky is a two-player card-based game which takes place during the last year and a half of World War I. You will command a flight of between one and six aircraft and then take to the skies for different missions like patrols, recon missions and perhaps a balloon-busting opportunity or two!
Loads of planes from the Western Front are contained within the game including the Fokker Triplane, Sopwith Camel, SPAD XIII and the Fokker DVII. What's neat about this game is that rather than exploring World War II which has been significantly covered in games, this one goes a little earlier in the 20th Century and introduces folks to the pioneers who are taking to the skies in some interesting contraptions!
Eagles In The Sky - Components // Revolution Games
You can play Eagles In The Sky in two different ways. You can either dive into individual engagements which won't take long to play or you can dive into full campaigns. These campaigns take place over "five days" with your squadron in tow. You'll be looking to complete different missions, taking into account the losses from previous missions, the fatigue setting in amongst your pilots and what those in high command are asking of you.
All of the game mechanics are driven by the use of cards across different texts as well as using counters to represent aircraft and some neat player aids and record sheets. Despite the hefty nature of those sheets, a simple dogfight can be over in as little as fifteen minutes which is perfect for learning how to play.
If you're interested in the idea of exploring World War I from a different perspective then perhaps Eagles In The Sky could be worth snapping up!
Keep an eye on this one!
