Wolfenstein: The Board Game Launches On Kickstarter
April 14, 2020 by brennon
Archon Studio has now launched their Kickstarter for Wolfenstein: The Board Game, taking you into the world of B.J. Blazkowicz as he battles against Nazi scum in an alternative Weird World War future where the regime won and now controls America.
Check Out The Kickstarter Here
The game plays with between 1-4 players and takes around 120 minutes to play. As mentioned above, you'll play as Blazkowicz as his comrades as you get stuck into a clash against the might of the Nazi war machine. As well as facing off against its minions, monstrous creations and scientific oddities you'll also find yourself clashing with the very deadly Mecha-Hitler. Any excuse to stick it to the dictator over and over again is welcome!
Wolfenstein Gameplay & Rules Download
Here is a quick rundown of what you can expect when you dive into the board game and play it with your friends.
The core of the campaign and the game itself is about a cooperative affair which I think is great. It's all well and good having someone play the bad guy sometimes but nowadays I much prefer to be battling against the game itself and its inbuilt AI.
I think most folks like a bit of Wolfenstein and it certainly provides a fascinating backdrop for a dungeon crawling adventure. It also looks like Archon have pulled on lots of Wolfenstein lore and more than just The New Order in order to give fans of the retro games and the modern retelling something to explore.
Archon has also put together this handy infographic which walks you through the basics of gameplay.
If that hasn't quite covered all of the points that you'd like to explore concerning Wolfenstein then perhaps check out the Rulebook & Mission Booklet which have been added up for download as part of the campaign. One bugbear we often have with Kickstarters is that they don't lay out the rules for you to read through and thankfully most companies, like Archon here, are offering them up so you can make an informed decision.

From a quick look over their preview and the rulebook, it does seem like a fun and bombastic experience which could be a lot of fun for fans of Weird World War games, dungeon crawlers and of course Wolfenstein fan. Gerry has also been playing around with the rules himself and tinkering with the painting of the preview figures we got too. Hopefully well get some more insights from him on the game come this weekend!
Pledges & Stretch Goals
Here is what you get when you pledge for Wolfenstein over on their Kickstarter page.
You'll notice a lot of familiar faces from The New Order video game and of course some quirky extras here and there. The array of enemies are pretty fun and there is a nice mix of different enemy types which should hopefully have you changing up your tactics.
Beyond the core box, you can also get yourself a neat add-on in the form of the Wolfenstein 3D Terrain Kit.
This kit allows you to get rid of all of the 2D tiles and instead replace them with some neat looking plastic 3D tiles which you can give a lick of paint too. As they've mentioned in some of their infographics, the plastic kit you get here doesn't require any glue and is easy to assemble; just like with the cardboard tiles. If you want to get into some properly epic looking adventures on the tabletop then this sounds like a nice extra.
Also, if you're in need of more heroes, the team has also worked on the All-Stars Expansion which introduces some fun new options from the background of Wolfenstein and more are going to be coming in the near future too.
As well as this core pledge and add-ons you've also got a whole new expansion which takes you back before the events of The New Order and instead has you tackling Nazi scum alongside a new array of allies.
The Old Blood expansion is certainly one which will appeal to those who prefer their more classic Weird World War tabletop moments. It has a great new alternative set of enemies, bosses and of course a new B.J. Blazkowicz who is kicking ass and taking names. And, that's not all. Of course, Stretch Goals are also on the way.
I'm sure this will be another bottle rocket of a Kickstarter and you'll find yourself getting a bunch of nice extras if you join in. For those that do get involved early, you can get yourself a fun extra model which draws on Wolfenstein's retro past. Meet Hans Grosse!

As always, get involved in the comments below and tell us what you think of the game they've put forward here on Kickstarter. I do like kicking butt and taking names in a dungeon-crawling setting so this might be worth a peek.
Let us know your thoughts on what we've seen so far below!
yeah….. “Please note that we will not be shipping this game to Germany due to legal advice received in relation to the regulation of the toy market in both these countries.”
Well, if anything this will make it more a collectible for most folk than it already is with it’s 120USD price tag. *shrugs*
Hmmmmm, this is an interesting dilemma is this another Reichbusters or a variation on a theme. if so, which is better?. Maybe the guys at OTT/BoW can do a comparison on mechanics, materials, etc and see which comes out better for gamers ( who knows, you might want to get both but as the price tag is high, this may suffer right now). I will see which Kickstarter does better, Reichbusters or Wolfenstein, not that it means anything since they are different, yet seem so very much the same ( sort of like apartments, why are they called that if… Read more »
Well we should be hearing from Gerry on what he thinks soon enough as he has a copy of the game that he’s been tinkering with. Should give you an idea as to what he thinks and then you can make a decision.
Gerry can… and will…!!!
Isn’t Archon rebranded Prodos who have a terrible reputation for delivery?
Yep. The folks behind the Load fiasco.
yes and no. Prodos has a terrible rep, while Archon actually has delivered several since then. Prodos dropped the ball significantly on the ill-fated Aliens vs Predator kickstarter from 2012 due to licensing issues and mismanagement of the project afaik. Last I heard, some backers still have not gotten their stuff and the license has expired. I do not know how things stand there. For my own part I have got most of my pledge. The minis were very nice. The backblast from the ongoing AvP shambles towards Prodos was significant to such an extent that they created Archon to… Read more »
1.8k thread on Reddit’s r/boardgames about Archon. Comments boil down to good-looking mini’s, poor non-mini components, poor rules, terribly run KS, and poor customer service for broken or missing parts. Pretty obviously, if you don’t care about the game, some of these won’t be a problem. I have fond memories of Wolfenstein on my Apple II, but don’t remember much of W3D. Anyway, I have too much stuff to paint, and already recently backed KS from companies I’ve dealt with before or were under $75. Hope Rampart went well. I’d like to back a similar terrain, but have two boxes… Read more »
In a recent Dice Tower segment called CrowdSurfing even Tom Vassel chimed in on Archon’s past KS failures and he does not usually chime in on those things. None of the previews I have watched have me wanting to play this game. I am sure the miniatures will be fabulous but you may will throw away the game.
Since my Reichbusters pledge just arrived a few days ago (all 30+ pounds of it), this seems a little too late. The noise mechanic sounds awfully familiar. Nice to have the 3D walls, though. And with today’s computer-aided sculpting methods, one would think that someone would start making figures with holes (at least a dimple) in the gun barrels. These would drive me nuts wanting to drill out every barrel….and being off-center half the time (or break through and dive the drill bit into a finger). Otherwise, it looks like something I could have gotten into. Odd, that it’s only… Read more »
Looks interesting, I really like to know how good the plastic miniatures are cut from the sprues, cleaned and put together. But I live in germany, so money saved I gues and I backed Reichbusters.
My bad you have to build them yourself, thought they would be pre build.
I believe they’ve done it so that the models don’t get damaged in the box when being delivered. They require no glue however and should slot together.
the game looks great and the figures are fantastic.
Big Fan of the Video Games, This Definitely has my attention
The mini quality of Archon is really good, i have backed Vanguard of War and the minis are nice (so my judgement is based on their resin minis).
But if you want good KS management, good communication, good rules and realistic timelines, i would advise not to partizipate in a KS of Archon.
