WizKids Resurrect Warhammer 40,000: Relic Board Game
February 20, 2019 by cassn
Back in 2013, Fantasy Flight Games produced John Goodenough's Warhammer 40,000 board game Relic. However, when the licencing rights were lost to Games Workshop the popular game based on the Talisman game system fell out of publication.
Now, WizKids have resurrected the game, picking up the licence to for a new generation of sci-fi board gamers. Choose from ten unique characters from different Warhammer 40,000 factions and save the Antian Sector from certain doom!
On their turn, each player rolls a six-sided dice to determine their movement around the region. Players then pick up a card to see whether they have encountered a dangerous enemy, a fantastical stranger or a new, treacherous location. While overcoming these challenges, players will gain power and skill, trying to work their way into the centre of the board and achieve their ultimate goal.
Warhammer 40,000: Relic will be available from WizKids and your FLGS in June 2019.

It’s nice to see GW and WK giving Relic another chance after FFG had lost license.
mmm never played this when they first came out may be worth a good look.
It’s a great game but suffers a little from a lack of interaction between players. Each player tends to fight their own battles and level up until they can tackle the center of the board.
The Nemesis expansion fixed all that though. The Apostate items mean players have reasons to tackle one another directly and the Nemesis gaining Infamy forces the players to act more quickly. They can’t just grind the board until they’ve hit max level.
Sounds good with the expansion.
Definitely suffers from multiplayer solitaire syndrome, though is enjoyable and quite immersive. I’ll gave to check out the Nemesis expansion.
Ive had a lot of fun with the first one, and both expansion. So its nice to see it go for another go. The busts for the different characters are really beautiful.
The nemisis ekspansion made more player vs player. Before you where servants of the emperor. Now you could play as a Khorne beserker, a slanesh demon, eldar and a genstealer if memorie serves me right. Its been a while sins i tried it last time. Maybe its time to dust it of and give it a go again.
Relic is definitely one of the better games that Fantasy Flight had produced with the 40K license. My only hope is that Blood Bowl Team Manager and Forbidden Stars get a chance to come back too.
Forbidden stars.. now thats a great game 😀
Yeah, the price of the Team Manager expansions on ebay is sick. And Forbidden Stars was destined for expansions that never happened.
Yes, it was… the best part of opening the game was seeing the small battle wagons and land raiders ;D
