One upcoming board game I am extremely stoked for is The Witcher: Old World, co-published by Go On Board and CD Projeckt Red.

Witcher: The Old World // Go On Board

I have been watching the Witcher franchise closely for years. Reading the novels, playing video games and obsessing over Gwent at every possible opportunity. So when I heard the announcement that The Witcher: Old world was coming to our tabletops, my main question was which Witcher would be holding up the helm of the game in the absence of the beloved Geralt of Rivia?

Where is Geralt of Rivia may you ask? This game is set way before Geralt's time, but just because he may be the most famous Witcher to some, certainly does not mean he is the most badass out there!

The world of the Witcher franchise is incredibly huge - and now we are getting a chance to look a bit further into the history and lore of the universe itself, to a time where five witcher schools were rivalling against one another. It is the player's task to be enrolled in one of these schools as a playable Witcher of their choosing.

Luckily, you will not have to undergo the laborious training which Vesamir and Geralt had put Ciri through, you are already skilled up and have passed your training with flying colours and ready to enter the world of monsters great and small.

Witcher: The Old World // Go On Board

Just like a true Witcher, you will travel, kill monsters and collect their trophies across the world. For the hope of earning big bucks worth of reputation and bringing your chosen Witcher school honour and glory.

Now the hard part, picking your Witcher. Players are given a high-quality miniature of their chosen Witcher and a matching player board that provides lots of information. This includes the opportunity to track attributes that you will gain throughout the game, and of tracking the 'levelling up' progress of your character.

Each Witcher available to play has a starting deck of ten cards, and all of these cards provide a different playstyle. This allows the player to gauge strategy by the playable character's stats. More cards are picked up later in the game adding more customization with attacks, dodging and combat magic.

I am very much a fan of Slavic and European folklore and The Wicher franchise and am looking forward to seeing if there are any new monsters joining the universe which were not previously mentioned in the books, games and tv series.

Are you looking forward to this title?
