Weta Workshop Bringing District 9 To The Tabletop
February 28, 2019 by brennon
Weta Workshop is going to be coming to Kickstarter with their District 9: The Board Game project on March 26th.
The game is for between two and four players and follows the events of the film from a new perspective. You will take on the role of one of the factions from this Sci-Fi world as you vie for control of the different districts and technological resources.
You will play through three days in-game and develop a board which should be unique each time due to different shaped tiles. Moments from the film and Wikus' actions will then change up the game making for a dynamic escalation of events. If you can weather the chaos of that battle and get your hands on the most alien technology you'll come out the winner!
The game is set to feature sculpts from Gary Hunt Miniatures and sounds like it might be another good string to Weta's bow.
Will you be keeping an eye out for more on this?

They promised a second movie! I want that sequel!
You said three years Christopher, it’s been ten you fuckin prawn!
A great interesting film the game sounds good perhaps this will help get the second film more weight?
A guilty pleasure of a Movie. Have been waiting for an Independence Day type remake
This is interesting. Movie itself is actually deep sci-fi with some connection to real life history so boardgame based on it does seem good.
Loved the film. Admittedly I saw the film on the plane, in a very “tired” state so maybe that’s why I can’t see anything in there that would translate into a fun game.
just say everything in a terrible seeth eefrikan accent. That’s what I’m planning. Not for District 9 mind you, just in general.
not sold on this one.
Theme is great… curious to see how the movie is translated to a boardgame though.
Thanks for the mention BOW . I made over 70 minis for this game, it was a blast! Great to re-visit District 9 after almost ten years since I sculpted prawn arms, legs and Wikus transformation make-up.. I based my scultps on the characters from the film and with Christian Pierce’s help we expanded on the designs creating new characters and vehicles etc… 🙂
