Happy Sunday!
Justin, Go see Star Trek Beyond (also, hand in your Trekkie card on the way in…)
@lloyd ‘s Train segment reminded me of Sheldon’s (Big Bang Theory) ‘Fun with Flags’ 😛
Don’t get him started. He’ll have a Fun with Flags on Trains show ready by the end of next week.
Lloyd’s favorite zombies go “Traaaaaainss…..”. 😀
lol
Happy Sunday, I’m with Lloyd on the train front, from the 1800s onwards they’ve played a massive role in the development and structure of countries and as such they have a real role on the tabletop beyond looking cool (which they do). Games wise you can have them in the old west, train robbery or native attack, 1920s pulp, boot leggers or cultists moving shipments, the host of wars we’ve seen including cold war gone hot. towns and cities developed around central stations to make movement of goods easier, so large yards look fantastic on the board and of course… Read more »
The Poles had some big armoured trains did the Russians. The Russians ones played a big part in the Russian Civil War and we’re used as almost armoured encampments for area denial One Polish captured train had In the wake of the end of World War I in November 1918 near Kraków, Poles captured an Austrian armoured train. It was renamed Śmiały and immediately entered service. Soon afterwards it was sent to Lwów to fight against the Ukrainians in the Polish-Ukrainian War. In the interwar period, the train was stationed in the 2. Dywizjon Pociągów Pancernych (2nd Battalion of Armoured… Read more »
And a list of trains
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_armoured_trains
also the TOG II is practically a train. Choo choo I’m a TOG!
Missed a bit out
Some of the Russian WW1 armoured trains had 6 inch guns on the back of the trucks
@lloyd I don’t think Justin wanted to admit he was wrong about gaming with trains. The train yard scene has so many potential scenarios, you could do a commando raid, tank battles or partisans blowing up tracks.
It’s an awesome idea for a board
Happy Sunday

Pandemic: Legacy is incredible, I can’t praise it highly enough. Everyone should play it at least once. You don’t need to have played Pandemic before. The rules are simple and you can have a dry run of the basic game using Legacy before embarking on the campaign. Because it’s fully co-op, you don’t *have* to have the same players in every session. The game scales to the numbers of players so if someone is missing for a session then you can still play, though the missing player might not thank you for it lol. It takes between 12-24 games to… Read more »
I give up, what do Star Trek movies and Roman kings have in common? By the way, I think a skirmish-level Star trek game could work, but not as a straight up wargame. The classic/Next Gen Star Trek Universe politics were shaped by the Cold War. There are some violent local conflicts, but the various factions are careful to not see them escalate to full-on galactic war. Skirmish games can take this balancing act into account: Either side will seek to accomplish strategic goals with as little violence as possible. A game like Star Wars: Imperial Assault would be PERFECT… Read more »
How about a Space Hulk clone with the Borg instead of genestealers?
I also see no reason why a Star Trek skirmish game couldn’t work.
Go on, it’s been killing me all day. What do they have in common?
When I say almost no-one will get it, I do mean it. So for the few people out there who have read their Livy, what Roman kings and Star Trek movies have in common is that every other one is bad.
I think we were able to get through Legacy with only three months being ones where we failed the first time @redben – I can’t do the simple math for it but we felt pretty good by the end of it.
Was SUCH a good game. Sometimes we had to ‘give up’ on lost causes and focus on completing missions we thought would be paramount to our success.
I don’t think that comic/TV is the reason both Mantic and Cryptozoic have their TWD games. They both would have had to license them from Skybound (who are the studio that make the comic). AMC (the channel that makes the show) would also have to license from Skybound and wouldn’t have the ability to grant licenses based on their show. In the case of LotR, both Mithril and GW license minis based on the books and movies respectively from Middle-Earth Enterprises. GW don’t license it from New Line Cinema, who in turn license the movie rights from MEE. The demarcation… Read more »
Lloyd for train yards look at photos from the battle of Stalingrade you can also see enemy at the gate also the end of cross of iron
Even the British used armoured trains
In the Fat Controllers memoirs ” My time with the SOE” he specifically notes how Thomas and Gordon were air dropped into France to prevent German reinforcements reaching the Normandy beaches
If you do a bit of research their 3 day skirmish with Herr Obersturmführer Zug between the 9th and 12th June 1944 has gone down in armoured train warfare history
I like the train idea. I have the femfa Christmas set and have used it in my bolt action games as scenery to great effect. Only as a single track so far but may have to pick up another set this year for a bigger layout. For the price I don’t think you can go wrong even if it is slightly off scale. Some of the sarisa stuff looks good but I wouldn’t want to fill a table at that price. @Lloyd for underworld how about creating the blank squares using your sponge rock system? You could carve them into… Read more »
A british soldier in WW2 towards the end of the war found himself carrying a stretcher with another chap and a patient they were crossing some railway tracks using a stationary train as cover. The soldier edged his way around the end of a carriage to see what he could see. At that precise moment a huge German train came galloping through all smoke, sparks, noise and soot. The air pressure at the front of the train and the shock of nearly being hit by it, taking his head off almost, makes him drop his end of the stretcher half… Read more »
I LOVE TRAINS!
@lloyd is right, trains a cool… (i didnt comment on the news article as I hadnt seen it yet)
Anything that makes a board immersive is definatetly worth doing, and train travel was more prevalent 1918-1950 than any other form of travel, so why not have them on your boards?
I thought Mantic had the Walking Dead license?
They just completed their miniature board game kick starter a couple of months ago. I just find it very strange that AMC is selling the license to another game company, for a similar game so quickly.
NM, missed the bit about comic vs TV series IP license
LLoyd, I am glad that Dust is still putting stuff out, but I sure wish I could get my Kickstarter stuff. It’s been 2 years. And I know I am not the only one still waiting. It’s hard to get excited by new Dust models
bens star wars slip made me giggle.
great last shot with Lloyd and his trains.

Doh 😉 @emptynessisform
Love the train yard Lloyd. You are not alone 🙂
Nice show again, thank you!
About the undercity terrain: Again something a 3D printer is fantastic for. Since 4 weeks I have one and it constantly is running to spit out terrain.
For this game this may work: http://www.printablescenery.com/34-dungeons
Nice thing about 3D printers: It is very easy to scale, so you may adjust these tiles to the board very easily
@lloyd I’d cover the water tanks with filler and then sand them down to make them uniformly smooth.
Trains are cool. A train depot to fight over would be great!
Really disappointed with the Armored Train , the cars are too short and stubby , very toy like IMO . The old west looks ok , but the rest of the stuff are British style cars . Not a German car type amongst them . Kind of hard to do a French or German rail yard battle with Brit trains . Hopefully proper style cars will be produced at some point . Would really like to see someone like Rubicon make them in plastic .
Yes please to Adobe buildings @lloyd !!
I’d quite like Dark Age buildings too, but adobe is the priority!
Ah, Pandemic Legacy… I started playing with my brothers a couple of months ago. We got 3 games in which took us to the end of February, but then we’ve not all been free at the same time since. When September rolls around we should be good to continue. And I can’t wait!
@angelicdespot I’m cooking up an adobe pie for you not sure when it will be ready 🙂
