Happy Sunday!!
That is absolutely the worst kind of putty I’ve ever seen. I wouldn’t even test that out on my children for toxicity yet alone try it out on a test model!
You want some nice osb board as the back – trendy interior designers love its raw look!
Good call! Damp proof too! 🙂
Store those paints upside down and the pigment settles in the nozzles and isn’t easily agitated! Anyway, the clear storage already makes it easier to see the colours at a glance. My wife is going to get suspicious later when I suggest a diversion into our nearest Poundstore!
Putting colours on the top of the label is too obvious; like retailers shoul put the larger sock sizes on the top row rather than near the floor!! (Sorry – an old rant of mine)
As a size 11-12 I’d never even thought of that with the socks *sets fire to M&S*
They do that in the states also. Get down there only to find them sold out. Now that is a gurn of the week.
Don’t think the first link to nail varnish holder will work very well ordered some before and just too small for dropper bottles unless you,, store upside down then they fall out easily and clog the nozzle
Justin
Sorry dude but you done goofed.
Silly putty is basically a silicone putty that leaves no residue behind. It is opaque and a fair bit firmer than what you have there. When you put it on your model you can then use something like a tooth pick to form it around details use the relief of the sculpt to get hard edges.
Go on Amazon probably the easiest way to get it if your toy stores don’t carry it.
Although you have to be really careful with silly putty as well. Much of the stuff you can buy easily is strongly coloured and that colouring comes off on anything it touches (fingers, painted areas, etc). Ideally you want the old fashioned plain one, but I’ve struggled to find that easily.
Never had a problem with color coming off just buy silly putty classic
There are plenty of sites that will show you how to make your own, usually a pva glue mixed with something that slows it setting. Just leave out the food colouring… and glitter!
Why not flour and vegetable oil mixed , that is what play dough is and that works.fine
Silly putty is not the same as play dough. Play dough is more likely to break into pieces and leave bits on the model, especially if pushed into deep details.
Hoo not good silicone is the painters kryptonite when it comes to car paints and will probably be the same for painting models @warzan
Home Raiders ordered – woohoo!
not pound land prices but this is what I picked up on ebay:
http://www.benl.ebay.be/itm/Clear-Acrylic-6-tier-Tattoo-Ink-Nail-Polish-Display-Stand-Rack-Organizer-Holder-/182312026269?var=&hash=item2a72a4c09d:m:mVDYE62OMca_8HyksmIplBA
This model takes GW paint pots and I have even used the bottom row as an improvised tablet stand to do some painting while listening to weekenders or Mel the terrain tutor shows
There are plenty of other models too, just do a search for “nail polish display”
I have a similar one. Fits every single pot of paint I have, including GW, P3 and coat d’arms. I think I grabbed it off Amazon for about £7
Always a great show when Justin and Lloyd sit together..lol. I use the wall mounted angle strips to store my paints but will certainly be getting some of the Poundland storage units to house paints that I’m using regularly. Sorry to hear Re-Roll is on hold for a while. For as much as the Boot Camps look awesome and are a great opertunity for a few, sadly they’re out of my budget until my 6 numbers come up. I don’t think many Back Stagers would be opposed to seeing adverts in Re-Roll so long as they were related to our… Read more »
Just in case this gets a bit muddled later, I’d like to be clear that boot camps have no effect on reroll 🙂 Reroll’s primary bottle neck is @lloyd and his design time – that is skill/time that just doesn’t exist among the rest of us and we are at a stage where we need new and more shows (so animations and assets etc) and the whole move to the updated web platform, which will allow us to actually develop and launch new features and functionality (current platform can only really be maintained not expanded) So if we want to… Read more »
Hobby weekender sounds great. Just wondering for people that fly over how they get the primers and varnish aerosols that you mention they will be getting as freebies back home
I guess posting home would have to be an option..
Trouble is Royal Mail don’t allow each aerosol to be over 350ml in size and you can only send 2 per package. AP aerosols are 400ml and couriers are expensive
These days airlines only let you take 3 bottles of liquid in your hand luggage and budget airlines are going to charge you another £20 to put stuff in the hold
If your lucky and you organise beforehand you may find more than one person in your flight and could just book one piece of hold luggage and split the cost.
I am in error about the liquids as long as they fit in a 20×20 sealable bad and the total amount doesn’t exceed a litre then your fine? At least thats what the guidance seems to be saying
Happy Sunday!
I have no issue with Re-Roll rolling out to everyone. If there needs to be something for the Backstagers could some of it be made XLBS, or could you run a giveaway in the mag in which you enter by posting on a thread in The Green Room?
Giving it to backstagers x days earlier could also work.
Just give it to them share the love dude. better to feed them then ” let them eat cake” and your next public appearance is a live snuff show followed next by a head performance that will be ” here all year- thank you very much uh huhhhh.
Sounds like one of your jobs is to organise your books. Alphabetical by author or invent the gaming Dewey Decimal System?
The gaming Dewey system – genius.
Yeah Gents just some feedback. I am a “listener while I paint” but I do exactly what Justin said , if something sounds interesting or whatever I will look up for a bit, the visuals are still important but if you got the content right. You could get the occasional pod cast in
Plasticine demon falling apart? Sounds like maybe Justin saw “The Gate” instead of Evil Dead.
Poor Ben, shaking his head in the background, having to endure such school boy humour from Warren and Lloyd! Tut! Tut! Don’t worry Ben, take solace from the fact that you’ll always ‘Rise above them’ (sorry! Couldn’t resist just one more in-your-end-O).
Noooooooo
Happy Sunday!
Sorry Justin that is definitely not Silly Putty thats some kind of slime and no Play-Doh is also different. This is Silly Putty http://escapeadulthood.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/silly-putty-630.jpg
On the Re-Roll you could try and charge non-backstagers for new issues but have a kind of preview copy that has one our two articles that is available for regular BOW members as a teaser. Tho that might take a little extra work so might not work so I don’t know.
I think Baking Soda can work as a Super glue accelerator.
Have a good week guys!
I’m definitely interested in the hobby Bootcamp, will Romain be on hand to give out some sagely advice?
@warzan we’ve been running Irregular Magazine since 2009, it’s been funded from our own pockets and we’ve toyed with the idea of adverts or a price of about £1. Though once you start charging hard cash, people will want original content in every issue. Getting enough content has always been an issue, especially getting people to produce content for free on time. I think Re-roll should continue because there’s a lack of magazines out there for the table top gamer, especially those who don’t play historical. Growing up in the 80’s as a gamer there were a ton of fanzines… Read more »
I’ve dropped you an email 🙂 would be great to get a chat!
Thinking about Re-Roll, personally I don’t see an issue with sponsorship through appropriate, informative advertising – it’s not like you’ll be looking at car insurance. The Weekenders already include Hubs and features on hobby products companies intend to sell so why not use this to fund Re-Roll. Use the income from advertising to employ someone to run Re-Roll and open it up to the whole community. Include community contributions and look to expand it. You’ve created something which has generated a lot of positive criticism which is no small thing in this industry. Use it as your flagship. Beasts of… Read more »
We have had a policy from the start of only industry related advertising (we don’t do the whole insurance or toung cleaner thing) 🙂
When I worked for a loss adjuster company we used to get quite a few claims for stolen wargames figures
Can’t wait for the hobby weekend 🙂
Just a little bit worried about my flight allowance with primers etc 😐
Your flight allowance would be most likely zero as they are restricted to 100ml in size .Some airlines just ban them completely
Maybe they can be posted home ahead of your flight?
Happy Sunday guys, I really enjoyed the episode today and it was great to see Lloyd in the mix. I even had to pause and go for a second brew which rarely occurs. @lloyd I really like where you are going with an organised paint area. Have you thought about picking up a cheap solid wooden headboard on eBay that could be attached to your painting table. It will have a good finish on it and be well supported to add the GW items you wanted to do. Also now you know the size works well you should really check… Read more »
I’d love to do a hobby weekend, but the past few times I’ve tried to get to bootcamps reality has given me the purple bone…
Justin, Justin….Evil Dead films are classics of the genre, they use editing styles such as jump cuts….it was edited in a way to make Evil Dead more scary and create anticipation, atmosphere and hopefully make the viewer jump with fright. You also have to remember the period in which they were produced.
The reimagining/ reboot of evil dead is great, and having a female ash, it is so much more wrenching and harrowing to see the girl beat to shit as she was and to cut her hand off also- ash had it easy to her. Ash was done for fun, the girl it comes across as pure misogyny
@Ben don’t highlight with bright red, use a mix of red and bright orange
Will give that a go @warhammergrimace 🙂
I think if you are juggling too many balls then Re-Roll is the thing to drop. I enjoyed it but it was very much a bonus. Unless there is a way for it to pay for itself I’m cool with not having it. For me the backstage value is in the two weekenders. Anything else you give me is a nice bonus! I like the podcast idea – especially the ability to download so it can be listened to offline. However, if the Weekender videos could be downloaded the same end would be achieved. What I would be interested in… Read more »
For re roll maybe going quarterly is something to consider.
With regards to Super glue activator (which I only discovered was a thing, on here last year) I remember I saw the word “alcohol” somewhere, when I was trying to find out where to get it…. after 15 minutes of detective work I came up with this (bottom of page)
http://shop.thearmypainter.com/products.php?ProductGroupId=4#Magic%20Superglue%20Activator%20-%20Alcohol%20(pump)
So basically Army painter is saying that alcohol is the major constituent in theirs but what type….stuffed if I know. Since you are on good terms with them … you could always ask
It’s usually called accelerator ( well to me it has) you should be able to buy it for a few quid
Most superglues react with water a mist of water from a spritz bottle works well for a desperate times solution or just buy a bottle lol
either pure ethol or methol. Ethol is purer, less water good to use on metal and electronics ( cleaning the internal of a pc ) use on cuts to clean them, can be drunk, usually clear. Ethol usually mauve, highly flammable( , dirty, high water content, poisonous.
Technically all spirits you drink- vodka, etc are ethol alcahols.
@lloyd @warzan those acrylic storage boxes are great, but if you go to eBay then they have the exact solution and no need to build anything else. What’s great about these is the trays are not segmented so it’ll take GW pots as well. Each unit holds 60 pots for under £10 with free shipping they have to be the best deal out there for a complete solution.
