Happy Sund… Heyyyy! Happy Boxing Day then!
A Christmas of boardgame gold! Twilight Struggle fully deserves its #1 ranking on BGG. It is a magnificent game. Don’t be intimidated by the rules. Whilst they’re complex in comparison to Ticket to Ride, they’re simple in comparison to a wargame. There’s a basic engine that drives the game of taking turns playing a card and either resolving the event on it* or spending the points value it has doing one of four things on the board. The turn sequence is printed on the board and the reference sheet has most of what you need to know. I’m jealous of… Read more »
I would love to play Twilight Struggle, but I don’t know anyone who’d play it with me if I tracked it down and bought it. I love the other games too though. I’ve introduced so many people to Ticket to Ride, and I think everyone has gone out and bought it for themselves. And Pandemic is probably a joint family favourite. Will be playing it later today! I’m mightily tempted by Legacy but again, not sure I can get a group of people together regularly enough to play it through. Thanks for doing all your boardgame coverage this year, the… Read more »
It’s currently in print. My LGS has a copy on their shelves and it’s on Amazon too.

Everyone I’ve introduced to the game has loved it.
Did someone say 28mm Romans?
Yes, but what period?! Tell us Lloyd!
But really… What have the Romans ever done for us?!?
28mm… pah!
While I agree with sentiment Rob. I was going to be nice and not say anything as its Christmas 🙂
apart from……

Aquaducts
I’ve already shown off my Christmas goodies over in the Green Room, but seeing as how you asked, I also had a very boardgame Christmas. I got Pandemic Legacy, Blood Rage, 7 Wonders, A Study in Emerald, and The Marcy Case expansion for T.I.M.E. Stories. I’m also not much of a resolutions guy, though in common with many other wargamers I’d like to get more painted. Maybe I’ll get my own 28mm Roman army finished. Currently I’ve got eight models for it painted.
Right – get out of the car everyone, we’ll head off to Granny’s later! Why? … just something I gotta do… of COURSE it’s important!
Ticket to Ride 10th Anniversary Edition is all well and good, but isn;t compatible with the board expansions. I’m not sure about the card expansions either as they have different backs and may be a different size.
If planning to collect several of the range start with the basic USA or Europe set.
Lol! Poor granny!
I’m glad to see Justin managed to take my whole Kwak! You truly are one of the Flegms now! 😀
The way he got over his initial trepidation, grasped that Kwak put it to his lips and took the whole thing (bar the little dribble at the end) … Was an inspiration to us all!
It’s a bit like a metaphor for life really, to get a head you must grasp the Kwak with both hands!
All hail Justin, Gullible Grasper, Transpiring Taker, Defiant Drinker, the True King of the Kwaks!
Haha, glad you guys enjoyed it! 😀
Poor @dignity – did you see his eyes when he saw the size of that Kwak….yet he still took it like a champ.
In fact, looking at how expertly he cupped the Kwak with both hands I would bet money that it wasn’t his first 😀
He may not have drained the ball but he took the shaft all in one go…
But did he spit?
That puts me in mind of spotswood’s speech in team america to garry, the one about both passing through the eye of the needle…
On Ben’s sage advice I bought my eldest the love letters card game (adventure time edition) and we spent Christmas evening playing it instead of watching a shed load of repeats on the TV. Even though my missus glazed over during the explanation of the rules, she quickly got the hang of it and we all had a good laugh screwing each other over just as we each thought we had a winning hand! We also got space cadets and George and I are going to read through that today. Resolution wise: I’m going to try and get in touch… Read more »
This was a missed opportunity for an on screen jammy dance. Just saying.
I got a repair manual for my MINI, which will come in handy if I ever engage in melee combat and need a bludgeoning weapon. I don’t have a resolution, because I know better.
The Belgians make some of nicest beers I have ever drunk
…Ben… try “Paint more models than I buy”
Nothing game related but some cash so I can pick what I need
@Lloyd. Which Roman period are you going for?
My resolutions:
1. Drink more beer
2. Lose weight
3. Paint all my infinity Morat minis
Happy Boxing Day!
I was lucky enough to get Betrayal at Calth from my gorgeous wife.
Now to paint them☺
Nice bonus episode to round off a great year for BoW.
Lloyd good choice with 28 mm Romans lots of nice plastic boxes available. Can use for Kingdoms of men in Kings of War not just historically
Justin – beyond the call of duty to down a refreshing 8.4% breakfast ale.
Resolutions
Learn two new rules systems eg black powder and kings of war, or Frostgrve. Happy to join Warren and loose 3stone myself – if he is serious
Warren, if you are interested in doing more skirmish games why not try Guy Bower’s Black Op’s from Osprey or In Her Majesty’s Name?
Both games cost about £12, need only a handful of figures, and have large followings.
As a resident of Belguim and a ‘Flem’, I can tell you beastians that the beer called Kwak is a beer served during the times of horse and carriage. You see roads where not flat and a normal beer glass would make a thirsty passenger in the carriage wet during the journey. All spills over him but not a single drop in his mouth 🙂
Another candidate for the skirmish game is Bushido
but seeing as how Warren likes ‘big’ armies and Orks he’s probably better off with Malifaux’s Gremlins – they’re green and there’s loads of them
Happy Boxing Day everyone
Hilarious show! I can’t wait to see the Nacht Wulf with dinosaurs. Khurasan have some great looking 15mm Dinos if you are interested.
Happy New Year! Just in case I’m not here to wish you so!
Best regards,
NR
Hope everyone had a great Christmas! Hobby related presents this year were some nice brushes from Rosemary and Co, and a Legions of Everblight Archangel to use them on. Not a hordes player at all; but it’s a beautiful model I’ve been wanting since it first appeared. New years resolution this year for gaming – Step out of my comfort zone a bit. I’ve been playing wargames with the same group of people since 1992, I moved house not too long ago which means I’m quite a way from all those friends and my gaming time is restricted as result.… Read more »
If I can take a suggestion Warran.. Malifaux is honestly one of the best games I feel i have ever played, the aesthetic is amazing.
My resolutions is to finish painting my Journey: Wrath of Demons
Ok nude beer revolutions, hic! So this is what it comes down to. I shall choose only three serious ones and possibly a couple that will be extra hard to keep but I shall do my best. 1, Warzan I am with you on the weight loss kicking 3 stones by May is definitely doable I must also go to the gym twice a week for some better muscle build. 2, On the painting side, Collect and paint a union army in 28mm for our ACW games (this may be a perry starter set painted up in union colours from… Read more »
