Let’s get stuck-in…….
Happy Sunday!!!
Damn, missed out on that coveted ‘First!’ post this week.
?
Cannibal joke: you must have some weird-ass crackers round your place at Christmas to have gotten that joke Gerry. ? Purple Dwarfs: funny you should say you don’t see many purple dwarf armies as that colour on Dwarfs immediately puts me in mind of a user over on Chaos Dwarfs Online who has a purple CD army. Also, Island of Blood was Elves vs Skaven; those Dwarfs are from Skull Pass. 😉 Anyone else disappointed that when he said Saga Fantasy dwarves, Gerry didn’t crack out a 15mm warband? 😉 Those old Dwarfs are beautiful; regarding Justin’s idea of giving… Read more »
@lordofuzkulak I wonder instead of the Forge World Iron Demon, the plastic Dwarf Pizza Oven for AOS (otherwise known as the Magmic Battleforge) could be converted with loads of putty and plasticard into an amazing Dwarf Steam Train…Not tank, train (a bit like the Squat Landtrain of old), wagons full of gold, a massive Ale wagon, an armoury wagon, prison wagon… that would be awesome!
Happy Sunday!
So… that’s what Justin looks like with hair. looks like he should be playing sax (“Blue Lou” Marini – one for the youngsters 😉 )
Happy Sunday! Although I am a little confused/intrigued, why are we celebrating district chimney sweeps?
Happy Sunday.
@warzan You need Mikey Mud for your bases. Its homemade basetex really
https://cranium27.wordpress.com/2013/04/01/basing-using-mikey-mud-aka-diy-basetex/
@warzan for weighting the tanks: In NZ and OZ there is a range of fillers by Selleys, including a product called no more gaps http://www.selleys.co.nz/fillers-putty/flexible-gap-filler/selleys-no-more-gaps-fast-dry/
Something like that may be available in the UK from a building supply / DIY shop.
Or expanding foam.
Not sure that the hole in the nozzle for either of these suggestions will work with the hole for the turret. You might have to pierce the bottom and then cover the new aperture up.
Would something like diamond glaze via a syringe work for weighting
The word is ‘spackle’,not sprackle, Warren! So! It’s not just names then? ? On the subject of ‘ballasting’ 1:100 & 1:56 scale plastic tanks, I use vehicle wheel balancing weights. They come, generally in 5gram & 10gram self adhesive strips and you can buy 100 (60gram), so 6 kilograms in a box for £15 from eBay. I used to be a car mechanic, so was able to get these free, whenever I balanced a wheel I would save the old weights and re-use them. See, recycling is far from a new phenomenon!
Great show love the pronunciation
For those wondering Gebirgsjager were the mountain troops
Those Mongolians are incredible, they did have camels, the camels with the two humps that are very woolly are Central Asian.
I have a couple of Camel Cannons for Ottoman Napoleonic forces somewhere – I think Westphalia made them. Not that is any relevance to the topic at hand, but if Warren wanted to add more historic weapons to his army (though in slightly in a different period).
Perry do a few different Camels for both napoleon in Egypt.
Limbers, Ambulances and Cavalry all camels would make a great Sharp Practice Force
westfalia sold that line Black Hussar in Germany owns it now.
@warzan I think the French book was called Tricoloure… Did you have to do exams called GOML (graded objective in modern languages) as well? Not to sound like a snob but I had to do Latin as well. The stories were good craic but didn’t really understand the point. Puella portit aqua (I think that means the girl carried the water and it is about all I can remember now).
For the filler, I absolutely love 4Grounds Basing Render, which is probably like spackle, but it is just so nice to use. In one of the @avernos and Big Ben from 4Ground videos, Ben started to say that something about changing the formulae and then they started talking about something else.
I used to use fishing weights for plastic 00 gauge train wagons. No idea about your problem… sorry!
@avernos Wood Elf, Golbin, Dark Elf, Skaven, Dwarf and I can never remember the 6th faction from the fantasy box. I think it is Orc, not Zombie. I refuse to google it as I should remember! I have about 20 of those Dwarfs.
It was Orcs. When me and my friends picked it up 30 years ago I got the Orcs and Goblins. Still got them in my orc army.
Cheers, the number of games I played of Warhammer with just those 60 models I should not have forgotten (I still have most of them somewhere and have possibly eBayed a few extras over the years_. Normally the skaven were on the Elf and Dwarf side to even the games up!
They banned lead fishing weights because lead is toxic, especially to water fowl who sift rivers for food and most importantly, swans, which are a protected Bird! The same reason is used for the banning of lead wheel balancing weights, they, cumulatively, pollute the environment when they fell off wheels in use.
@warzan They do still use rolls of lead on buildings, we sell it everyday, I work for a big builders merchants. Lead flashing is used when fitting window frames.
Instead of robbing banks, stealing the lead off roofs was a popular past time for career criminals over here when the price of metals was through the roof a few years back. Now they are mostly stealing cash machines from Petrol Stations.
@warzan try this
http://www.manticgames.com/mantic-shop/kings-of-war/dwarfs/product/steel-behemoth.html
Schönen Sonntag as we say in germany… how to pronounce this? Ask some dude on YouTube. 😉
For the bases try what’s called structure paste, it’s a sort of gloopy putty, but it sets with a texture can be sanded and painted and is easy to push around and get into little nooks and crannies. You can get it most places that sell crafting stuff I bought a big pot for about £3 from Flying Tiger (but I think the nearest one of those to you is Belfast) The stuff usually comes in a few grades of thickness/graininess too which is handy. Having recently used the GW technical mud stuff, I think that it’s most likely just… Read more »
No idea what those 15mm are. They could be from a defunct company but I’m sure it was probably bought as some sort of army pack.
For your Mongol army, these chaps do some nice wizard types

The paint job looks decent. Looks a good buy!
For Dwarven Warmachines:
Tank from MOM Miniatures:
https://www.momminiaturas.com/miniaturas-fantasia/ejercito-enanos/tanque/
Plane, agin from MOM:
https://www.momminiaturas.com/miniaturas-fantasia/ejercito-enanos/aeromaquina/
Gyrocopter from Norba (Their airships seem to be sold out presently…):
https://www.norbaminiatures.com/es/enanos/34-girocoptero-kark-dun.html
Or the Steel Behemoth from Mantic…
http://www.manticgames.com/mantic-shop/kings-of-war/dwarfs/product/steel-behemoth.html
Edit – looks like @grimwolfuk called out the Behemoth earlier
Black Tree also do a Gyrocopter, although they normally have a long wait time.
I’d be cautious of BTD atm; they’re currently running about six or seven months behind on orders due to personal problems that cropped up over Christmas and at the start of the year. Might be best to wait until they’ve cleared the backlog before ordering from them rather than adding to the pile for them.
@warzan could the Knights be Ral Partha? they have that look.
Could be though Real Partha haven’t as far as I know sold 15mm historicals in Europe for years. The archer basing was interesting it could be WRG6th or 7th edition but could also be multibasing for 15mm Warhammer ancients or another multitude of rulesets
every section had 4 bases and had lose to make up a 5th with figure removal. But the sizes don’t lend themselves to warhammer, dba or dbm, so not sure what he was using his 100 years stuff for
Dbx us going to be either 40x something for 15mm it 60x something for 28mm
aye that’s why they don’t work there is no cohesive UD basing across the force, it’s a mystery.
One that could be solved by asking the seller mind you
Could they have been mounted for some sort of display board rather than for use as gaming pieces?
it’s possible can’t see why they would do it that way though
I’ve asked on a couple of FB groups to see what they think the figures are
I have a feeling they may be Essex, but I’ve not sat down to double check, the more I look at the infantry the more I feel that may be the majority. There are definitely some that are a second manufacturer in there mind you
My initial thoughts were Essex and Old Glory. Some of the archers look like Museum or the old chariot minis but can’t see them on their sites
@avernos People are saying there Essex
For both the 15mm and the Mongols maybe a black Klear wash for the 15mm and a brown one on the Mongols might work
So am I right in thinking that essentially the Flames of War slow grow league has already started and those of us looking to take part and document it should put a Project together? Also, what should we tag it with so we can I can see what people are doing?
Nope. As per the front stage it doesn’t kick off until July so people have a chance to sort out what they’re doing
@avernos cheers buddy, wasn’t sure as when I followed the link to the FoW vid about it they have a ‘Get a head start’ for June with you buying, planning, assembling and painting.
aye in that video he says it runs July to Sept but you can get a start now with purchasing and building. Which makes sense as it’s twice the amount compared to August and September
Was pleased to see that just the German starter box has enough for me to field 100 points.
Getting the starter myself. Think I will end up going American and use the good Shermans!
@robert definitely worth it. I also picked up the painting book which is really lovely.
Agreed totally, the book is great!
I’M HAVING NIGHTMARES FROM THIS IMAGE!
Can I really watch that now?!
I wouldn’t
To late…. I’m deaf, numb and blind now…. have you lot no shame at all? Wait, don’t answer that 😉
Now where to I get a decent microphone for Part 3 *g*
That’s not the most nightmarish one i’ve seen the guys use, there have actually been worse ones that i’ve blanked from memory…
@kantor72 please … the thought alone enough is to trigger the need for brain bleach.
For weighted bases, about the size of a penny, why not use “penny weights”?
https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_nkw=penny+weights&_sacat=0
They still use lead, so are nice and heavy – far more substantial than actual pennies.
I prefer greenstuff/milliput “toppers” to messing about with pva and pebbles, but you can use whatever topper technique you like on lead bases too (they take pva surprisingly well).
Curtain/penny weights are fine, but cost per unit is substantially more than face value coins.
Yup. But the weight per unit is also substantially more too 😉
what for?
They arrived safely!!! Very nice eye @avernos they are old Dwarves from the Warhammer Regiment box that I found in my loft “Pile of Shame” along with the marauder model. I wanted to add in some models that haven’t seen the light of day for many a year, sadly their original shields were long gone so I added some from the Scribor range, which I think worked quite well. I owe @aurorainbag an update to the project log, with pics and more info, which I will do at some point soon. Really chuffed that all the models arrived OK and… Read more »
They look great, well done to you and @aurorainbag
Thank you so much! I can’t wait for the next batch which are currently crossing the North Sea!
Thanks Rob, but none of these are mine :p They’re all Tonys amazing work :).
Thank you, but that’s not quite true, the chap with the shield and axe is your test model you sent me.
