Flames Of War Hobby League
Over in our Projects system, you can now get involved with the Hobby League for Flames Of War which is running from now until September.
Your aim is to work alongside friends, clubs and stores in order to slowly build up your Flames Of War army, aiming to get to 100 points by the end of it. Then, you'll be able to join us for a grand campaign that we're putting together in October.
Make sure to get involved and check out the Battlefront Miniatures website for more details as well as registering stores where you're taking part with our Places system.
Updates & Lloyd's Holiday Snaps!
We've got a few more updates worth delving into...
- Call For Community Writers - We're looking for folks to come on board and volunteer their skills for article writing on a whole range of subjects. You can Submit Your Ideas Here
- No Weekender Next Weekend - With Justin and Gerry off in America at Historicon we won't have Weekender shows for you next weekend
As we mentioned earlier there's also a chance for Lloyd to show off his holiday snaps after his trip away to Valencia. He got to visit a rather epic museum and was soooo close to getting to view more toys too!

Kingdom Death: Monster Player Boards!
We got a lovely gift from the community this week in the form of some Player Boards for use in Kingdom Death: Monster. Sam has shown these off to Chris from Darker Days Radio and we'd love to use them in our next filming session.
Gyuri Boda from Hungary sent these in from Etsy. You can find them HERE. There are also lots of other cool accessories online from designers like FancyButFunctional and PlayYourBoards. Make sure to check them out and see if something grabs your attention.

I stay up way too late. happy weekend everyone
It’s the Weekender!
Brother Lloyd returns from his Holliday.
I’m stoked about the Flames of War IV Hobby League.
MiG Alley Set looks like a winner.
Kings Of War 3rd Edition, right about time for it!
So much goodness.
On with the show!
It’s the Weekend, and boy have I earned this one…
Dune:
Frank Herbert book 1965
David Lynch movie 1984
Amiga rts 1992
TV mini-series (not movie, Justin, but close) 2000
New Movie due 2020
Iron Maiden – To Tame A Land (Song based on the book) 1983
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_y3o4okKXMU
When anyone mentions Dune, I automatically think of this song. Don’t know if it is true or not but Frank Herbert wouldn’t give the band permission to call the song Dune, as he didn’t like rock music – quite possibly an urban myth, don’t know. I will stop mentioning this song when I have converted you all to Iron Maiden fans!
I heard the same. Herbert not only disliked rock bands, but especially disliked Iron Maiden.
With regards to the BS Fantasy Terrain clips, at the moment the standard grey clips might stand out a bit on the browner graphics, but new colours have been hinted at in the KS comments! Look closely at some of the pics and so e are coloured, but that might just be marker penned or prime sprayed grey clips.
I’m going to have to check out One Page Rules.
Thanks for the suggestions!
Any another great prize!
Heads up on the Footsore Saxons “We are offering our new Late Saxon Huscarls as an Advance Order. This is not something we normally do but due to being bombarded by people asking to buy them right now we have relented. Not in our release schedule until the latter part of this year, we will take orders this week until Sunday 7th July 2019. All advanced orders will be shipped THE LAST WEEK of July 2019 as we are going to have to shoehorn the production of this miniatures into our already tight schedule.” So get your orders in today… Read more »
Good to see Lloyd hosting the show again.
Disappointed in @brennon for calling railways, railroads and even more disappointed in a fellow train nerd, @lloyd for not correcting him. While the colonists may claim to have won the first American Civil War and then incorrectly called it a War of Independence, we can’t let them win the English language by calling things railroads, sidewalks, and trash cans! (please note this post is soaked in jest and only intended to offend American’s with no sense of humour 🙂 )
So they took your railways too, not just the airports?
Only achieved in 1776 due to their Space Force capturing our communication satellites…
Great to see Lloyds photos and its probably a good job GW was closed or he would have ended up with yet another box of skeletons!
Looking forward to seeing more projects appear for the FoW Slow Grow League and it will be interesting to see if some articles from community members.
The Weekender is here 🙂
happy Saturday mate! 🙂
Does anyone know how that fantasy terrain matches up with the Dave Graffam stuff?
Design wise? or Scale wise?
I suppose scalewise you can adjust the print before printing to match the BS stuff.
Yay 14th!
Woke up tired this morning, thought I was late for work realised it was Saturday sat back and watched The Weekender.
It’s the wkend wahooo, now just have to wait to get the kids in bed to carry on building my team Yankee. God damn it lol
Strangley excited about Lloyds holiday snaps…..

a happy weekend for everyone?
congratulations mate!!!!! a very happy Saturday indeed 🙂
I believe it is called Hnefatafl, but chances are I am very wrong. The only reason I know this is a like watching wood working videos and loved the one below. Please don’t ask me how to pronounce it!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iiHlAa131NI
Indeed it is, sometimes called ‘Viking chess’ or checkers… but that name could apply to other games.
Ranked 2,577 on BGG and dated around 400ad.

Looking at the equipment in the museum I presume it was mostly Spanish Civil War stuff
A bloke with a dane axe ?
Run away
Justin with a dane axe ?
wave some vegetables or a dead spider on a stick … 😀
(yeah … I can be real evil when I want to)
lol spider on a stick lol
I can just see the outcome lol
So Nice to chill on a Saturday morning with the weekender, but looking forward to the Historicon coverage next week.

That Dane axe could really cause some damage. Little wonder the use of them was so wide spread in the 9th/10th centuries.
That museum looked very interesting. Shame about the GW and yes I do the same thing Lloyd whenever I travel.
In regards to FoW I want to know when the lists are going to open up again. I want to be able to make obscure SS Units, Elefants, Hungarians, ME262’s and maybe even a Maus.
English were still being surprised by them in Ireland much later than that.
My history is probably terrible here, but as far as I can remember the Dane Axe or Sparth Axe was being used well into the 16th Century by the Scots and the Irish.
When I was doing the reenactment and from what I’ve read the guy with the Dane axe gets one chance at killing you after that they should dead given all the momentum they need to swing the thing it would leave them defenceless. They were much better at taking out horses
Interesting stuff. The way I have had it explained to me was if, for example, a Gallowglass was fighting with a Sparth Axe, he would have been fighting as part of a Sparr (sp?) and would have had a couple of Kerns at his side, perhaps armed with pole arms, swords or missile weapons. I’d sort of assumed they fought like this to protect the Gallowglass until he was ready to swing the axe again or draw his sword.
I was really talking about Vikings/Saxons etc rather than gallowglass which I don’t really know about
The strange thing about a lot of 2 handed weapons is how they were used in close quarters. Great swords were often used to cut the legs of pikemen by crawling under the pikes until they got close enough to slash out at their legs. Spatha axes were used like halberds, chopping up and down rather than swung about. I imagine in closely packed units they would be largely useless unless used like that.
Great episode as usual
I play Gloomhaven and I can’t help but think that MDF character sheet thing is massively overkill and only serves to conplicate things and take up too much space on an already crowded table (I already have trouble fitting the snacks on the table). Each to their own I suppose. It does look very fancy.
Great show guys! Really looking forward to the Dune board game.
In an effort to get an un-Irish response from the taciturn and stern @avernos I recommend we sponsor a sack and crack wax for him with his face on camera……..@warren I believe you should also get involved due to a lack of weigh ins!
git
dont even suggest it lol
Bless the Maker and His water.
Bless the coming and going of Him.
May His passage cleanse the world.
May He keep the world for His people.
Happy weekend.
