Weekender: Age Of Sigmar Hits & Amazing Terrain
July 4, 2015 by warzan
Welcome to The Weekender! We've got some cracking stuff for you today including a look at some brilliant terrain and a discussion on the new Age of Sigmar. Do we think it has promise for Games Workshop? Let's get stuck in.
Awesome Terrain
First up we're going to be looking at a range of different terrain companies throughout the show. The first of these is Cracked Earth Studios who provide an awesome array of different fully painted Fantasy buildings and other terrain pieces that would be perfect for your tabletop.
Dawn and Gianna love these guys and we can see why.
As well as that we're looking at what's new from 4Ground which includes their new Ruins terrain which we reckon could well be perfect for some additional character on our Age of Sigmar Table.
Age of Sigmar
Talking of the Age of Sigmar from Games Workshop we also have a discussion about what we think of it so far after seeing the rules and the myriad of different models. It's certainly a new direction for Games Workshop to take with the game but we reckon that's got to be a good thing right?
Heer46 Kickstarter
Going historical we also have a look at the Heer46 IndieGoGo which is looking to bring a range of metal Germans from World War II onto the tabletop. It's based on the historical events surrounding the Eastern Front push on Russian by the Germans.
They are doing a nice array of metal miniatures alongside some vehicles from a stalwart of the industry, Rubicon.
Prizes!
We've also had some prizes to give out and some prizes to win! One of these is for a set of the FOUR DEMIGODS painted by Awaken Realms for Demigods Evolution. The other is for the 4Ground City Watch Tower. Keep an eye out to see if you won.

Yay Demigods!
Second!
I’m curious about your opinions regarding both the lack of balance and structure in AoS and some of the silly meta game rules for the older models like “have a starring contest” or “if you kneel when Setra is your general you loose the game”.
I’d ask but I’d probably get labelled a troll…..
Nah, you’d probably just get told to lighten up. After all, it is just a game of toy soldiers 😉
If that’s how questions get answered….
When it comes to those rules – I’m not so sure. There are other games that have little rules like that which include SAGA and their beard thing (if you have a bigger beard you win ties etc). I guess it fits into the more relaxed Age of Sigmar ‘vibe’ but I do see why people just think it’s stupid. I’ve been looking over the Warscrolls for my Dwarfs and one thing that immediately struck me is that they’ve taken away a fair degree of the customisation. But, all the rules seems fairly neat. I’ve heard a lot of people… Read more »
Oh, and I like their structured ‘options’ for creating armies with a theme to them and getting a bonus for doing so. I don’t how how much that’s going to help the balance but it gives you an incentive to get stuck in on making something tweaked to that degree.
Thanks.
Still trying to wrap my head around the lack of solid structure.
Saga sounds sexist towards non dwarven women btw lol
I think we’ll see something come down the pipeline for those wanting a bit more structure – like developed ways in which to use those ‘Army Lists’ to curtail what people can and can’t take etc and in what numbers. Away from that though I think they’ve just tried to make the game a lot simpler and broader in appeal. I will have to get a game on at some point over the next week with my Dwarfs and see how they still hold up. I am already thinking up a range of ‘Old Grumbler’ lines and stuff to use… Read more »
They game’s alright as a coffee table game. But for a lot of people out there, we need that structure that WHF had and 40k has.
I guess the answer to that @toxicvex is to either wait and see what happens with AoS or play Kings of War for mass ranked battles and AoS for the more casual “shall we just break out some models and have a game?” idea.
Maybe GW realised that they don’t actually want to compete with Mantic over this and they could just do something different entirely.
We shall see.
As a VC player the undead got a huge boost. But the game is in desperate need of a points system case in point is nagash should go can cast so many times a turn that he can summon an entire army every turn. Until we as a community figure out a point system its basically a no go for me which is unfortunate but cause I see some fun brilliance in the warscrolls… Even the weird rules like getting a bonus for talking to a Konrad model and an even bigger bonus if he talks back
Or that Slann can keep summoning new units or a Skaven gunline or even Horrors summoning more Horrors.
The game’s in dire need of a points system or something that can and balance it.
GW (objectively) didn’t put an awful lot of effort into the rules.
Seems to me AoS is not intended to be a tournament-level game with balanced forces. Probably the base game comes with scenarios that require the inclusion of certain models per side. After that players would be encouraged to experiment with different force compositions. “We played last week and my guys couldn’t hurt your [monstrously powerful unit]. How about I bring some [powerful unit] to make it more fair?”
No offense, but GW is not targeting you “competitive” folks with AoS.
@refernandz2001 you don’t need to be competitive to want some well rounded balanced rules. I’m a casual 40k player and 40k still has points and balance.
It asks me to log into YouTube when I hit play … so there’s me thinking “who swore then?”. 😉
is the some thing wrong with the vid ?
Could be the “minor success” Warren talked about in the vlog.
check the video please, it’s marked private!
Yup. Houston, you have a problem. I know this is the grand trial this weekend. So sounds like you didn’t dodge the snafu then?
Same with the ‘log-in’ request.
same for me, cant see the weekender. where is the pic of Justin?
hmm Works when using Explorer. does not Work when on firefox or chrome
Worked fine for me…
Video is currently private.
Given the tech problems … UNhappy Saturday. Lol.
Can’t see the video 🙁
Morning all.
Working now!
Aww… man…
I just brewed coffee…
Don’t make me wander around the mean streets of the Internet with my coffee waiting for the video to get un-snafued (it’s a word – look it up). 😛
Get in!
Coffee is still warm and the doors are now open.
Fixed now folks, its been a long week lol
I imagine you relived the frantic scene in Star Trek The Wrath Of Khan where Khans ship gets hacked by the prefix code to lower the shields and he’s looking for the override …
Exactly lol
Oh my God…
Had to pause video.
Best. Into. Ever.
Holy crap…
Anyone else see a slight lag in the sound? Could be me.
Yup it’s small but I think I see it, well look into that for next week 🙂
It might just be taking the sound longer to get down your extra length…
Booo…just boo. 😀
It works! Nice video. It is great to see you so clearly! Wow!
It is just about 11PM Friday night for me, here is Oregon. So it perfect time for me.
tfs……time for my weekender fix 🙂
Saturday morning lie in while watching the weekender…happy days 🙂
Yeah! Then you have to wait seven long days …
WOOOHOOOO !!!
Best beginning ever… of anything !
Good to see that your hard work paid off. Nice job guys. It felt like there was so much talked about and the video just flew by.
AoS looks interesting but the jury is out on the miniatures. Fantastic sculpts but I can see a lot of business decisions in them to tempt customers over from 40k. Cut the sword off any of them and replace with a bolt gun and they would work in 40k. I would have preffered something less bulky and more believable. But, I think it will work for GW and the game will sell, after all it is the system that needs to work, you can always use other minis…
What swords?
They all have ridiculous hammers designed to spread impact over a greater area so no one gets hurt or axes so unbalanced you can’t get them up to speed.
I agree, I think the models are way too 40k, I mean I understand roman centurion-esk but these are a tad too much.
I want Demigods
Getting a slighly out of sync audio?
a little … See above 🙂
