Warlord Games' Vanguard: Normandy Board Game is now live on Kickstarter. This is a big new project from Warlord Games, looking to introduce the battles of World War II to more people as well as offer wargamers a new option when it comes to battling it out on the tabletop.

At its core, Vanguard: Normandy is a one to four-player game where you take on the role of the Allies or the Axis during World War II. You will either fight as the US or the Germans battling it out during D-Day and beyond in Normandy. The game can be played solo or with up to three other players as part of historically themed campaigns which have been designed to represent the action that took place during World War II.

Vanguard: Normandy is first and foremost a board game and whilst it shares some similar mechanics with Bolt Action (like drawing activations from a bag), Vanguard: Normandy features more rules surrounding resource management and recruiting units, all whilst looking to outwit your enemy and react to them on the fly.

Victory is achieved by claiming important and strategic locations on the hex-based map tiles. You'll have to capture and control Strategic Points on the map with your non-mechanised units (tanks don't solve everything John!) and from there you'll gain victory points. Supply will also develop during your game and the spending of your Supply Points is key to victory. As you play, you'll unlock more advanced units and have to work out what the best answer to your opponent's current ploy is.

All of the units for both the Allies and the Axis are asymmetrical so there is some real skill involved when it comes to picking your side and then working out the best way to use these troops, vehicles and more in the field. Combat has also been designed to be quick and easy with special dice that have been designed to easily resolve conflicts.

3-4 Player Booster - Warlord Games

There are more fun mechanics involved with Vanguard: Normandy that you'll have to get your head around. You'll have to keep an eye on the changing weather situation and how it will help or hinder the war effort as well as ways to use underdog mechanics to give you a fighting chance if you've gone too far behind on victory points. You'll need to make some hard choices when it comes to the use of these powerful abilities though!

If this all sounds cool to you then you can check out Warlord Games' quick How To Play video below...

...and there is also a prototype rulebook that you can download HERE. This will give you a handy insight into how the game plays and whether or not the game is for you.

There are various pledge levels for you to get involved with that either have you starting out with just the core game or with the addition of the 3-4 Player Booster which adds additional components to the game.  There is also an Exclusive Miniature for the Kickstarter that suits the scale of Bolt Action (28mm).

Make sure to check out the Kickstarter for more information on Vanguard: Normandy. If you're someone who liked games like Memoir '44 and Tide Of Iron then this might be for you. I really like the modularity of the hex-based boards and the depth that they offer for replayability. Additionally, having the solo and multiplayer options help bring different types of players to the tabletop.
