Weekender: Warlord’s Battle Plans & The Stygmata RPG Kickstarter
November 7, 2015 by warzan
We have quite the awesome Weekender for you this Saturday morning if we do say so ourselves. There's been quite a lot of awesome news dropping in the world of wargaming and fascinating Kickstarters too...
News Update
- Malifaux Roosters - The Gremlins continue to grow as the quirky faction in Malifaux from Wyrd.
- Black Powder War Of Independence - Fight out battles between the English & Colonists with Warlord.
- Terminator In 1984 - Grab boots, jacket and motorcycle then take on Terminator in 1984 with River Horse.
- Star Wars Rebellion Board Game - Control either the Rebels or the Empire as they fight for control of the Star Wars universe thanks to Fantasy Flight Games
Kickstarter Round-Up
- Warlock Of Firetop Mountain - The classic Fighting Fantasy Adventure Game Book is now coming back with an all new digital look.
- Kedric Wink's Ghost Hunter: Witches - A new standalone expansion for the Ghost Hunter series arrives by our friend, Kedric Winks.
- Wolfstar Heroes - This is a quirky one. Keep your eyes on this home grown card game which features some rather zany art and mechanics that we quite like.
Banner Saga: Warbands
Megacon Games are going to be launching the Kickstarter for the next big board game, Banner Saga: Warbands, next week. We got a look at some of the components, miniatures and more and can't wait for this one to hit.
If you haven't played the PC game then I suggest going over to Steam now to grab it HERE.
Interviewing John Stallard
John Stallard is back on the set talking about what the future holds for Warlord Games. We'll be discussing what kind of games they are looking at in the coming months and beyond.
Talking Eden & Stygmata + Big Competition!
Justin sits down with the guys from Happy Games Factory to have a chat about not only Eden, their post-apocalyptic skirmish game, but also Stygmata which takes their vision and translates it into a role-playing world.
We also have a superb competition from these guys where you could win...
...all you have to do is comment on the episode via Facebook, Youtube or Beasts Of War to be in with a chance.
Laser Terrain Co. Under The Camera
We also have some of the superb looking Laser Terrain Co. Plastic Terrain in the studio which is part of a Kickstarter campaign happening right now.
This is great as it has the added bonus of being able to light up to give your interiors an even more atmospheric feel!

Morning
Good morning, nothing better than your show for starting the day 😉
Happy Weekend!
I love that Laser Terrain Co stuff. So tempted… I have too much terrain as it is though… Too much cool stuff!
The Battle of New Orleans was during the War of 1812 (actually 1814), not during the American Revolution.
The AWI/Revolution set would not work for the war of 1812. You’d want Napoleonic era figures. To put the proper context, in 1812 Wellington was battling Napoleon’s forces in Portugal and Spain (Peninsular War) and Napoleon himself was busy invading Russia.
How many wars did the Americans and English have with each other?
I can only think of 1812 . Does AWI count?. Was USA a country at this point or would it be counted as an early example of War on Terror by the British? Canada has been involved in 2 or 3 but again not sure if that counts
Mostly just the American War of Independence from 1775 to 1784(right before the French Revolution) and the War of 1812 which lasted from 1812(naturally) to 1815. And as was mentioned before, your favorite battle technically occurred AFTER the peace treaty was signed. 🙂 In fact those British who “ran through the brambles” were actually veterans of Waterloo. There was a moment in the American Civil War where the south was seriously courting bringing in Great Britain into the war and it almost came to a head during the Trent affair where a british ship was boarded by a Union vessel… Read more »
So long story short, 2. 😀
But it was nearly 3 with “The Pig War of 1859” – where the 2 countries almost went to war over a pig.

No one at New Orleans could have been a veteran of Waterloo, as Waterloo came afterwards and most of the troops at New Orleans would not have been at Waterloo. They were, mainly, Peninsular War veterans. Also, the Peace Treaty stated that war would continue until ratification by the US Congress and thus the battle was not after the war had ended (by about 2 days, I seem to recall). Also, @warzan , the Americans did not beat the British in any way close to the song you keep referencing…it was their artillery and Packenham messing things up and getting… Read more »
we fought two wars with each other the war of 1812 was a draw
I think the Pig War was more Canadian. I believe a certain Col Pickett was involved in that one
Just one as far as I know. And the war of 1812 had a massive build up, we were unofficially at war (by that I mean doing things you would expect to see during a war without formally declaring it) for several years prior. Seizing shipping, press ganging sailors, blockading ports etc. The war, when it happened, was a bit of an anticlimax but it did trigger a very long periodnof peace between the USA and the UK which has lasted ever since
those terminator miniatures look unreal!
Been a long week – topped off with a Weekend(er)!
Digital Wizard of Firetop… I don’t get it! Either do something significantly different with the story of re-issue a classic in the classic form of a book.
blaeyn is right..was the War of 1812, US forces commanded by Stonewall Jackson. The irony was that the battle technically happened after the war had ended.
I grew up and lived most of my life in Louisiana, and that song and the history (and legends) of the battle are kind of unavoidable. I’m surprised no one has mentioned the pirates yet, though. Between the Tony’s Creole Seasoning, black eyed peas, and Warren on about the Battle of New Orleans, a bunch of Irish guys are making me homesick for Cajun Country!
“Stonewall” Jackson was a Civil War general fighting for the South. You are thinking of Andrew Jackson, nicknamed “Old Hickory” and the 7th President of the United States. 🙂 But to your defense, both men had a history of standing and taking gunfire. 😀
Well it’s wonder John didn’t go bang trying not the laugh during Warrens over use of the word cock.
I’ve also bought a couple of their minis (got the War Wabbit at Easter) just cus they’r great figures.
Good morning guys
Morning!
Always love the kick starter round up. Do you follow up on any of the smaller kick starter projects you highlight?
morning
Loved the interview with John S from Warlord
BoW, the audio for the hubs swipe at 41 minutes has the wrong audio. Warmachine visual with Dropzone Commander audio followed by Kings of War visual with Infinity audio.
Same issue at 57 minutes.
Pick me! Pick me!
There is audio static.
Holy talk about one hub and it shows another…
“Join the infinty hub” but it shows bolt action.
And all of them are like that.
I’m most excited to hear the plastic Paras and US Airborne for Bolt Action will come out this year!! The war of 1812 is a really fascinating subject. A bit of a sideshow for Britain as it was fighting for survival against Napoleon. Interesting that Brits and Yanks still seem to have a complete different idea of who has actually won this affair. For the Americans this is the second War of Independence and the origin of their national anthem and of course they have won.. For most of us over here the US wanted to invade Canada, got a… Read more »
Most American military historians or even moderately-well read enthusiasts would probably not consider 1812 a “victory.” As @suetoniuspaullinus aptly points out, the White House was burnt down and Washington D.C. occupied by a British Army. Any war in which your president flees the city while his wife bravely remains behind to save the silver and artwork . . . hardly a victory. Taking a step back to view the situation at a regional view, America came out far ahead in this affair, i.e. “stealing” the Louisiana Purchase from a cash-strapped Napoleon. About 12 million dollars for 820,000 square miles (almost… Read more »
“I’m most excited to hear the plastic Paras and US Airborne for Bolt Action will come out this year!” @suetoniuspaullinus
Right with you on this one, best news from Warlord ever! 🙂
Huh. Plastic Paras & Airborne might be what convinces me to take the jump into Bolt Action, as I’m trying to limit my mass-battle armies to plastic ranges wherever possible….
Morning all, a breath of fresh gaming air to launch a hopefully relaxing weekend!
Yay. Weekender time! Hadn’t heard of Eden until mentioned last week, but instantly piqued my interest especially as I backed the post-apocalyptic terrain on KS from Battlesysyems.
Glad to hear all the good things from Warlord Games. Biblical wargaming is something I have never heard of and know very little about, and would probably buy the book just for the information alone.
Mounted cocks??? For a second I thought I was on my other favourite website
Pros: Space Monkeys Con: all my money is going on glowey floor spaceships
Haha, all that talk of the mounted cocks! THAT nd Johns facial expressions were Not very conducive with me peacfeully drinking a cup of coffee ;P
GREAT vid as usual guys.
Not really looked much into Eden, but i must admit those miniatures do look very nice.
Are they plastics? or white metals?
Who has not give EDEN a try until now: do it, its a great game! 🙂
