Warlord Games Announce New Board Game Project, Vanguard
October 11, 2023 by brennon
Warlord Games has announced that they are going to be bringing a new board game to crowdfunding in the near future. This World War II board game is going to be called Vanguard and it sounds very intriguing indeed!
Vanguard // Warlord Games
Vanguard will be focused on World War II and will have players looking to deploy their troops and manage resources as they battle over objectives on the board. This is a dedicated board game from Warlord Games but they have also said that it will contain recognisable mechanics from Bolt Action which sounds intriguing.
Vanguard is meant to be quick to set up and easy to play with an upper limit of four players. You can also play the game solo according to their initial morsel of news which is going to be helpful for a whole bunch of people. As mentioned above, the game will be coming to crowdfunding and will have an expected launch date of Spring 2024. So, not too far off!
There is a Mailing List that you can join to get information as it comes out and hopefully, we get to see more artwork and such like the mock-up of the cover above.
Could you be tempted to dive into a new board game project from Warlord Games?

Interesting move adopting the crowdfunding model, look forward to finding out more.
Mantic Games sitting there saying, “Vanguard? Really? You chose that name? Really?”
… and here we see why gw product names are ridiculous
I imagine Vanguard – the finance company – aren’t too bothered about Mantic’s game, nor this one. Fighting copyright is expensive and annoying, especially when the name is a word.
That’s very much the point. AFAIK Mantic and Warlord are friendly (Mantic having licensed both a ruleset and individual models from Warlord, and vice-versa) but the publishers of the venerable Commandos series of PC games issued a C&D threat to Triton Noir, makers of the V-Commandos boardgame series, which resulted in Triton Noir completely renaming their entire boardgame series from ‘V-Commandos’ to ‘V-Sabotage’ to avoid POTENTIAL lawsuits, not even an actually realized court case. So there is certainly precedent for these things to occur. Trademark protection is certainly a thing in many entertainment industries (see also: The history behind GW… Read more »
When you say claim to own GW do own a trade mark for Space Marine. People get confused with Trade Marks, IP law, copyright. People often quote the myth you cannot trademark common terms were as in fact you 100% can.
Its filed under serial number 74186534 in the USA and UK as UK00001461715. Its filed against Class 28 products.
Mantic oddly enough dont have any trademark for Vanguard, just Mantic, Kings of War and Deadzone.
On the open day John mentioned a future board game with another partner as a possible small table intro much like warcry/killteam. Wonder if this is it
