The Warhammer Quest Continues With Shadows Over Hammerhal
January 24, 2017 by brennon
It looks like Silver Tower wasn't the only journey into the world of Warhammer Quest we were going to enjoy. Today Games Workshop showed off the cover art for Shadows Over Hammerhal, a new self-contained adventure.
You can just make out the characters which are going to be making themselves known in this adventure. Leading the way we have a Lord-Castellant followed by a Duardin Cogsmith in the foreground. In the background, on the left you can also see a Black Ark Fleetmaster and Slaughterpriest. On the right, behind the Stormcast we also have an Aelf Loremaster.
They appear to be battling against foes sent forth by Nurgle and Tzeentch.
The setting will be Hammerhal, the twin-tailed city, which is one of Sigmar's new settlements straddling two realms in Age of Sigmar. Sounds awesome.
Will you be keeping an eye on this?

I haven’t bought anything GW in 10 Years, but I love these big box games with a Ton of minis and a game. Great value.
I now have 3, Burning of Prospero, Deathwatch Overkill and Blood Bowl. Looks like I’m going to have to get Silver Tower and this new one. “Just when I thought I was out, they drag me back in!” Nice JOB GW on the new Approach, Now if we can only Get Necromunda!
Necromunda would be so sweet. If they are indeed going to revamp 40k, I would assume a new edition of Necromunda would be released some time after that.
It would sell by the truckload.
According to some people in the forums it is coming.
You have bought things from Workshop then.
I think I may have to get this. It looks a lot darker and grittier than Silver Tower, more of a “classic” dungeon crawler. I can’t wait to see the minis!
Also- I’m WAY more interested in Warhammer Quest as a game that will continue to expand.
I’ve not been terribly keen on a lot of GW’s board games that have no hope of getting support. I’ve been hoping for Blood Bowl and WHQ to be the exceptions, so this is great news to me.
Blood Bowl is the exception as they have new teams in the pipeline.
the key question is of course : for how long ?…
The rather random timing and under the radar release of this stuff for AoS doesn’t make it feel like they want this to succeed.
It also makes me wonder how they’ll handle the bloodbowl support once the initial extra teams are done.
If they follow the same pattern as Silver Tower then we won’t be seeing any new BB stuff for another year.
I will definitely be getting this. I’m really glad that they are continuing with the Warhammer Quest line. I’m guessing that the hero’s from both sets could be used in either game.
One would assume so since they will most likely keep the same hero mechanics
Yeah- hard to imagine that they wouldn’t let you use all the heroes together.
And there are a lot of heroes.
Yasss Queen!
On the more serious note I am really glad they are continuing warhammer quest I hope they make some improvements to it. I think there core problem was not the game itself but instead the presentation. I think if they can clear that up, the game will be a lot better. We are versing different foes so it may be different, but I am hoping the core rules will be the same, or at least pretty close. My biggest concern will be if they keep the hero cards the same if they have changed them I will be very disappointed.… Read more »
Feckn sweet! Can’t wait to get this.
Don’t really mean to be a “Dougie Downer” here, but I can’t see any models on the box art which would require new sculpts. On the the upside, it will be great value, new tiles and adventures, plus the continued support. I just hope we get Pestigors or Nurgle Marauders or something in the new in the box.
I feel slightly bad raising this, am I am more upbeat about it than I am downbeat, but I just thought I’d raise it
I noticed that right away too. Although, I do hope they get new minis anyway.
Games Workshop’s recent board games have come in two categories- “Full Games” and “Discounted GW minis for 40k/AoS with rules as fancy packaging.”
The way to tell the difference has been whether or not the game has new minis. That’s how you tell if GW means it, you know?
For me if it is cheap and a new adventure I don’t give two tosses what the antagonists are, the game was actually quite good. Poorly written to explain the rules and I have always said that, but the models while those new ones are brilliant, I don’t mind getting a whole bunch of ‘old models’ if they are a brand new adventure which doesn’t break the bank.
However, if it does cost an arm and a leg… well then fair crack of whip.
No mate in all honesty I don’t give a tinker’s toss either, however I do worrythat some people may expect a second silver tower and then complain about afterwards . Forewarned is forearmed.
I second that underlying notion. (The second part that is.)
Absolutely.
Well, there are said to be those burdened by an affliction of most curious forms, a whispered love for as they might call it shiny figurines. These kind are rumoured to experience great joy and satisfaction by engaging themselves in various fields of occupation around such of those trinkets that are of exceptional craft and of forms never seen before.
A rare desease in these parts of the world and poor souls, indeed.
😉
That was poetic …. sincere appreciation… well said 🙂
I was thinking the same thing. I truly hope they expand on the bad guys with new models. It’s almost for there own good.
The new models in such boxes are a good gauge to the public’s interest in the potability of an army themed on them models.
This would be another chance to see if we want an all Nurgle army of such.
Nothing really wrong with that. As said passim, the molds have already been made. It is better to get some return for them at a lower margin than to sit on them while they make nothing.
I’m sure there will be something new. I think they will time it such that it is in stores prior to the AoS update of one of their armies, much like Silver Tower was released and then a few months later lo and behold, Tzeentch is re-released and all the Silver Tower models are dragged into Age of Sigmar. I think this looks like it will probably be chaos themed again although one of the bad guys (back left) looks decidedly like a Vampire! And the description says the city spans two sides of a realm gate so who knows?… Read more »
@onlyonepinman – isn’t the vampiric guy at the back the Dark Elf character?
Well on the Warhammer community website it says:
“Warhammer Quest Shadows over Hammerhal will be an entirely self contained game with a whole new cast of heroes and villains”
I imagine that there will be new sculpts for the heroes.
I’m fairly sure that all the models will be new sculpts.
Great models or not, it’s the rules that ruined Silver Tower for me. Quest, was, and still is, one of the best games GW produced. Silver Tower was a very poor game in comparison. If they resold the original Quest, I’d be in like a shot. Especially if they resculpt the original minis to meet their new standards in detail (which are amazing). I like the idea of bringing these games back, but not if they are going to makeso many changes it’s no longer recognisable as the game it claims to be. I fear for a new version of… Read more »
The fluff sounds quite interesting:
“…this set will have an even more involved narrative, and will explore the dark labyrinths beneath one of Sigmar’s new Free Cities: Hammerhal, the twin-tailed city – a metropolis that is built around a Realmgate and sprawls across two realms!”
If you’re interested in more Age of Sigmar fluff I recommend you read the latest book – City of Secrets. It has Wtichhunters, free peoples, Scourge Privateers and Duardin. Also has some Stormcasts in it to but shows what they’re like from a humans point of view living in the city which is pretty intimidating.
It’s a fantastic read. It really fleshes out the worls
I agree – half way through at the moment and it’s good stuff. GW seem to have realised that we need some more “normal” people and places in the realms to help us get a handle on what’s going on and care about the outcome. Seems like they might be working towards a perfect balance – some of the feel of the old world but with the fantasy turned up to eleven, so anything might happen.
I may get Warhammer quest yet look very promising.
More money already spent before the product is even out.
Wouldn’t you know it, all of the heroes but the Stormcrap Eternal are some of the few I have already acquired for Silver Tower. Typical GW shenanigans, they probably won’t even bother to give us 6 unique heroes that haven’t already been represented in the hero card pack. I just love buying the same carp twice (or 3 times in the case of the Khorne dude).
You buy fish over and over again?? 🙂
Well played good sir. The consepuences of a late night post typo come back to haunt me.
😉
This is so good! Im having a hard time focusing on any one of the GWs games.
Crossing fingers that there are new hero models in this, but from the art work I doubt it.
A few people are worried about not getting new characters. If there are new models for existing characters I would be OK with that. But I might be a little disappointed if I just get the same 6 characters
Heed ancient words of great power!

Silver Tower was an amazing set of figures and probably the first box of Old World Warhammer stuff I have bought since the 90s. I had no interest in AoS – but now I am sort of curious about the background and mythology…
nurgle will be a great addition 🙂
