Warhammer Quest Is Back With The Adventure Card Game

Warhammer Quest is back from Fantasy Flight Games with the Adventure Card Game. You can find out more about the game below and in the video above!
Delving Into Dungeons
It makes sense that the game is back in some fashion and Fantasy Flight Games are a perfect company to take the reins. It sounds like they've got the toughness of the game sorted too - the first few things they say about the game is that it's devilishly hard.
So what's the thought behind the game...
"In Warhammer Quest: The Adventure Card Game, you must find your way through the tunnels beneath Skompf and through other neighboring caverns, and much of the game revolves around exploring these tunnels by advancing through a series of locations. However, these locations are full of Ghouls, Greenskins, and other monsters.
Each time you reveal a new location, new enemies appear, drawn randomly from the quest's enemy deck. These enemies then battle you as you try to advance to the next room. They slash you with their claws, rip into you with their fangs, and fire crossbow shots from the shadows."
...and all of this is shadowed by a few key mechanics each turn.
- Attack: When you perform an attack, you roll the number of dice indicated by your Attack action and count the successes against one of the enemies with which you are engaged.
- Aid: Aiding another hero allows you to add success tokens to one of their actions, to be used at a later time, and allows that hero to ready one of his action cards.
- Explore: You need to explore to advance through the game's locations and make your way through its dungeons. Each time you explore, you roll a number of dice and place a number of progress on the location equal to the successes you roll.
- Rest: In Warhammer Quest: The Adventure Card Game, you will take damage. You will be beaten and bloodied, and you will need to rest to heal the damage, healing one point of damage for each success you roll on your rest dice.
With a built in randomisation after all of your main story quests are completed this sounds like a game ripe for the picking. I can't wait to hear more on this.
What about you?

Interesting.. it looks like FFG’s answer to Pathfinder (which already plays like WHQ without the board). I will be picking this up for sure!
Yep – went to the top of my wishlist alongside the GoT 2nd Edition Card Game.
Have you played PACG by the way? It would be interesting to own both and compare them 😉
I own the Skulls and Shackles version, plus my brother has Rise of the Runelords which we are currently playing through. Good games, but from what I see so far, WHQCG probably won’t be on the same scale. However, I may be wrong. I’ll be keeping my eye on future previews.
From reading the FFG article, the four characters appear to be:
Warrior Priest
Bright Wizard
Elf Waywatcher
Dwarf Ironbreaker
The advantage of the ACG format is that it will be easy for FFG to bring out new hero packs in the future so I would expect to see the ‘old’ faces return such as the witch hunter and noble, plus some new hero choices too. After all, they already have a huge pool of art to draw upon thanks to WFRP 3rd edition.
Each character has four basic action cards; Attack, Aid, Explore and Rest. When used, the card is exhausted until a card effect readies it again. One of the 4 cards also has an effect which allows you to ready all your action cards.
The article mentions upgrading your actions, so not sure if this means you can gain new action cards, or you replace your basic action cards with more powerful ones, but still have only 4.
This looks nice, but I’m not sure if I can take on another card game. I’d imagine Warren is fairly thrilled to see this make a reappearance.
He’s probably jumping up and down going
“OHMYGODOHMYGODOHMYGODOHMYGOD…”
Oh yes!! Me Likey!!
I don’t usually play games that have no minis as a rule (MTG and Munchkin being exceptions ¬_¬) but this… this looks very good! I’ll indulge! If GW don’t want my dinero no more then FFG can have it instead!
This looks promising, I will keep an eye on this quest.
Looks interesting.
Check out FFG’s site, they are making more announcements for upcoming stuff. Just announced:
New edition of the Runebound board game
Imperial Assault Carrier for X Wing
COOL 🙂
Wow! This is really cool news.
Not going to be the same as the original 🙁
Might be ok but i’m more looking forward to Dungeon Saga from Mantic
Aww man
Thought the second best GW game ever for coming back for a moment.
Little bit sad now
HolyMoly! that’s a good surprise. My younger me would have prefer a mini game, but FFG does some badass products, so Great!
well worth a look.
I still play the original dungeon crawler yet, for a minute there i thought they were revamping it but no. FFG do make lovely stuff.
I still got the board game. Wish they made another one of those instead.
I was thinking before starting the video that the iPad app was the best version of the original game that someone could make without remaking the board game… but I loved everything they showed in this video. Count me in for this game! Also important to note that anyone that is interested in working for FFG, mandatory hats at work policy!
Is this one based on the engine all other FFG card games are based on ?
Warhammer Quest reprint!
Oh.. it was an Adventure Card Game edition..
– My honest reaction xD
Exactly my reaction too.
Did a little bit of wee at the thought of a reprint of WHQ and then was sorely disappointed.
Fret not, Dungeon Saga is almost upon us.
To drop the Old World…GW you shall burn !
liking this big time !
