New Khorne & Stormcast Warbands Come To Shadespire Next Week
April 2, 2018 by brennon
Games Workshop will be releasing some new warbands for Warhammer Underworlds: Shadespire starting with Magore's Fiends.
This set brings forth some of the Blood Warriors from the Khorne armies in Age Of Sigmar. Each of their names are Magore Redhand, Ghartok Flayskull and Zharkus the Bloodsighted - quite the dangerous-sounding crew, and they are accompanied by Riptooth the Flesh Hound.
They are more heavily armoured than their other Khorne brethren and they will no doubt get an extra boost of ferocity with that Flesh Hound in check. I am interested to see how they come together tactically.
Ranging Storm
As well as the forces of Chaos we also have releases for the Stormcast Eternals. Here are the Farstriders.
This band of warriors breaks down into Sanson Farstrider and his comrades Almeric Eagle-Eye and Elias Swiftblade. They are looking for a cure for the loss of personality that comes from being reforged. This is becoming much more of a thing within the ranks of the Stormcast Eternals and I'm interested to see how this all twists together.
Protect Your Cards
As well as the models you will also be able to accessories your collection with some new card sleeves too.
Are you tempted to pick up another of the warbands for Shadespire and if so, which set appeals to you more?

Man, all the new warbands for Shadespire are so bland and uninspired. Don’t know, I’m not in a hurry to pick them.
“They are looking for a cure for the loss of personality that comes from being reforged” – You know, maybe they should just “not destroy the Old World” and use a proper honest to goodness full of personality Empire warband. That’d help.
The big shiny numpties.
(Sorry, just feeling grumpy this morning)
Ah yes, because everyone wants the alcoholic fetal syndrome soldiers in potato sacks. That’s what exciting and interesting, Johan and Fritz on their quest to not die of scurvy.
Anyone can concede that the dated Empire State Troop miniatures leave a lot to be desired, but The Empire had more personality in its little toe than a whole army of these uninspired, bird-riding C-3P0’s.
Sure, because XVIc HRE has never been done before, except by every historical wargame about the period. The Empire in the old storyline had zero agency of it’s own, it survived due to writers making sure nothing actually dangerous ever happened to it. Literally every other army had more character than the humans in WFB.
I thought they were nice HRE inspired models, TBH. I don’t play GW games, so can’t speak to that aspect of it, but dumping on the models because their fluff was uninspiring seems a bit off target.
I have to agree with @greyhunter88 . Most of the new stuff doesn’t stand up to the old world models from back in GW’s Golden Age.
You must have read a different set of background, near devastation on numerous occasions, brave last stands, moments of divine intervention, internal politics and conflicts after the 12 labours of Hercules-esque rule of Sigmar. Each state had character, let alone the whole thing. Of course it lacked dull, one dimension, perfect warriors cause that always adds character …..
@dogma2097 Over all that’s what entire AoS is missing and not just Shadespire. Some regular humans fighting against all odds that are stacked against them. Just like what Old World had with Empire and Bretonnia. It’s so much more interesting than what ever Sigmarines are.
No surprise as it shows which war bands were coming in the rulebook but its still a shame it’s Stormcast and Khorne again, won’t stop me picking them up 🙂 For me the Farstriders wil be a nice pick up as I don’t have any of the vanguard models yet. Hopefully the next wave of Shadespire brings more from the diverse range of AoS into the mix.
The khorne minis have some nice touches and less ridiculous than some previous versions. Really like that take on fleshhounds, lets hope a plastic kit soon,
The addons are always nice, its a great product range if you like the game, I don’t but can see why it’s selling.
There would had been some actually interesting choices like Lizarmen and Daughters of Khaine for Shadespire but what GW chooses to do instead? Make more Sigmarines and Khorne guys just like they have done with all AoS products. It’s shame really because Shadespire would need some more different warbands.
I really like the hound. That’s the stand out model out of the bunch.
On the stormcasts, I rather just go and buy some 40k space marines. Unfortunately, to me they look like a band of tin men, wizard of Oz style. Maybe it’s the amount of metal on them.. or maybe they just lack heart.
Oh, look. More of the same. Why are they beating these factions to death?
I guess Stormcast and Khorne sell well. Also these warbands will have specific cards that only come with this pack that will be useful to the other warbands, it’s a tactic that’s been used by FFG since they launched Xwing.
I have so many xwing ships I’ve never used because I bought them solely for an upgrade to keep competative.
I’m just happy they didn’t go with the blind booster model for Shadespire as it’s a great game and that would have priced it out of the market for me.
I think that we we have seen to date (and knew about, because the war bands were hardly a secret from the rule book) probably constitutes Shadespire wave 1. My hope is that there will be a wave 2 later this year, with different game boards (especially as the rule book describes bringing boards in your collection) and new war bands. Possibly different ways to play. A legacy aspect would be cool also – perhaps under a tournament or campaign were you permanently lose cards in a tournament so you’re thinking not just what round to play a card, but… Read more »
I like these releases. As @carlospictor and others have said, this is the end of Wave 1. For a game which only came out about 6 months ago it’s not bad to have 6 different factions. Actually 8, because I suspect that these latest 2 will play differently to the other Khorne and Stormcast ones, but if you want to count these thematically as repeats then you’re still left with 6 factions. To date, most of the miniatures have been very nice, with some of them being really stand out. The Undead are brilliant, the Skaven are great, and although… Read more »
I am a fan of the shadespire kits, although not new models they do add new poses which add more variety to existing armies.
I use the Warden from the Sepulchral Guard as unit leader for my skeleton warriors.
I Mix Garreks Reavers throughout my Bloodreavers and plan to do the same with Magores fiends
