War Of The Ring Designers Head To Arrakis For Dune Wargame
July 20, 2022 by fcostin
CMON has done incredibly well on Kickstarter. They have just completed their recent crowdfunding campaign for Cyberpunk 2077: Gangs of Night City - The Board Game and now, CMON have headed to their blog to spill the beans on their next big project.
Now, they are taking players away from a dystopian cityscape and into the sandy and spicy universe of Dune. This focuses on a strategic and asymmetric wargame pitting two factions against one another in epic conflict as part of Dune: War For Arrakis.

Players will be taking on the role of two factions within the universe, bringing in some incredible characters, like the industrialised Harkonnen forces and the desert planet inhabitants - the Fremen. However, we don't know much regarding the granularity of gameplay at the moment.
Taking the helm and designing the upcoming Dune title we have a name that will be familiar to those who have put blood, sweat and tears into War Of The Ring. Francesco Nepitello and Marco Maggi have jumped on board, taking inspiration from the mechanics from the Middle-earth-themed title, and bringing over the Action Dice mechanic for one.

Luckily for us, we have been told that we can expect to see some original designs for Dune, with art and design based on the book itself. This means that there is no reference to the recent movie release and CMON has said they'll be inviting many a character from the franchise - including ones we have never seen on the tabletop. For the full announcement, be sure to visit CMON here.
We can expect to see quite a lot of miniatures heading over to Kickstarter soon too, bringing the vision to life and the warfare of Arrakis to tabletop over with CMON. There's no date nailed down for when we can expect this up on crowdfunding, however, we do know that it is coming in 2022. So, we'll just have to keep our eyes peeled on Kickstarter!
Certainly sounds interesting! What do you think about a strategic Dune Wargame?

Nope I want a 28mm tabletop wargame with 4-5 factions at least, with sandworms, dune carriers, those flying things, etc. We have 4-5 dune board games already they all follow pretty much the same concept fighting over spice controlled areas as the original board game. For the love of the worm god can you not give me the top table game now !!!!
You can find it on this site 😉
I was mildly interested…but CMON and kickstarter killed my interest.
Nepitello and Maggi are billiant designers and War of the Ring has to be one of the greatest area control games ever made and succeeds to marry theme and mechanics into one epic experience. I have high hopes for this project but CMoN kickstarters are a non-starter for me.
It’s about damn time.
