First, ha!
That is sooo cheating.
Happy Weekend!
And same to you with a big juicy cherry on top!
Am I the only one who keeps hearing Warren say “corsets”? “How many corsets do I need to be competitive?” What kind of game is this now? Lol!
lol
So we watched the first half while cooking breakfast and she who must not be disobeyed asked what @warzan was saying. Then all the talk about decks confused her. The coffee out the nose hurt.
I’m in on Detective: City of Angels 🙂
It does look like a wonderful game doesn’t it 🙂
‘George Lucas stole my heart!’, well said.
Have a great weekend everyone.
And Merchandisers everwhere all cried out in… Joy lol
If you want to know how BB-8 is feeling about Porg stealing the cute spot…

lol love it he he
Poor BB-8! I’m BB-8 for life! No Porg for me!
On L5R, you can’t build a tournament legal deck from one core set. You can do a stripped down ‘single core’ version of a full deck. Two core sets will let you build a tournament legal deck. If you want to try and win games, you really need three. Even if you don’t want to be particular competitive, if you start with two you’ll quite quickly find it restrictive and want the third. Bear in mind that three core sets costs about the same as one booster box of Destiny, and you get a full set, whereas you nowhere near… Read more »
You get those sexy dice though 😉
You do lol. The point is more the one you made from the minis point of view. If you want to play L5R regularly, the cost stands up well compared to the likes of a CCG or a minis game.
As an aside, L5R is my game of 2017 so far (still looking at you, Pandemic Legacy S2)
You’re going to have to show is these dice sometime 🙂
It’s the Weekend!
Time to get some hobby in. Got my first KD:M piece to make & paint in anticipation of the 16lbs of hobby I just paid shipment for!
Speaking of monster KS projects, have BoW got a thing against 7thContinent? Not that it needs any help as it approaches $4.5m – then again with 45 projects already in this week’s thread it’s not as though you haven’t been looking. With JoA underway too this/next month’s gonna hurt!
No mate, it may have just slipped through the updates on the thread 🙂
Destiny’s product availability struggles were nothing to do with production and everything to do with grossly underestimating demand based on the lukewarm reaction it got from punters and distributors at GenCon last year. They thought it wasn’t going to sell much, but once people actually got the product they couldn’t get enough of it and the print run was way under demand. They’ve up-front said they’re going to be aggressive with releasing Legion product.
Thanks for the clarification on that @redben
FFG have taken over my gaming life in the last couple of years so I’m chock full of FFG news lol
@warzan, I find myself getting ready to travel to you neck of the woods today (as in coleraine, not just NI). Unfortunately it’s for a wedding so there is no chance of hobby as things stand but someone summoned a feckin hurricane when we’re due back – if we get held up can I hide at the studio… I’ll make tea, I’ll clean, I’ll do anything on excel, I’ll let az force me to play any board game he has… it you or the inlaws
Yup Hurricane is on its way (just as me and Andrea go to the hospital to have baby 4 delivered lol)
If you find yourself stranded, feel free to go an annoy @thisisazrael mate lol
And yea during the great Maelstrom the child was born……….
Has anyone consulted the Mayan Prophecies for these dates ?
All the best for you and your soon to be bigger family! Hope everything is/will be fine!
Have enough to do to keep 2 in check…can´t imagine how “lively” four will be 😉
# 4, guess your trying to sneak up on my 6, eh Matey???? LOL
If you keep this up @warzan , you’re never going to have the time to play Detective or any other games!
(Congratulations, by the way!)
Also the studios open on most Sundays (after lunch) for gaming 🙂
Is it? I should go, what are the chances of getting a game of Saga do you think?
Oh no forcing, you’ll come to the dark side willingly, in time, they all do.
For a small fee (a drink should do it) I’ll bring a mobile board game van to the wedding and the reception will be epic! The family fallout could be unrecoverable however.
*mutter mutter* Let’s play Chain of Command *mutter mutter* Where is it? *mutter mutter*
@thisisazrael holds the keys to those questions @torros (Delegation baby!!!) 😉
Well delegate him to get his arse into gear! 😉
Ohh don’t worry about that he’s a doer that man, it wont be far off 🙂
Aww man looks like they’ve been delayed for another month all of a sudden, damn all this content :p
Sundays out – I already asked
lol – Awe mate, want us to have a word on your behalf 😉
L5R sounds good but check out the Battle for Rokugan board game when it’s released. Some friends and I did play testing on it and it’s brilliant.
Another cracking show guys
Already on the purchase list 🙂
Fancy doing an article on it @phoenixman?
Apologies Warren I’ve only just seen this when using new site.
If you’d still like an article please let me know
I love the A Game of Thrones board game, and Battle for Rikugan looks like that with bells on. Definitely a must-buy!
Dunno what happened there.. anyway long and short, thank you, prob be a fuss ova nuffink but thank you.
All the best for baby 4 (am still struggling with 1) good luck to you both and hope all goes well.
You should ask battlefoam to make you a carrier…
I love what Steamforged Games are doing with Guild Ball, what a fantastic idea, its funny though as I play Hunters but prefer the Morticians sculpt 😀 Steamforged I think may be one of my favourite companies out there at the moment, will be watching SteamCon closey maybe next year head up there too 200+ polar bears sounds like the scariest thing on Earth!! I live in Wales, if we had sheep like that I wouldn’t be for much longer 😉 As someone sitting on the outside of card games, don’t play any at all, the idea to have to… Read more »
It’s an ongoing complaint, but I don’t mind it so much. The core sets are reasonably priced and have a lot of cards in. To reduce the number of sets to buy, FFG would have to put 3 core sets worth of cards in one box, with an appropriately high price tag, or reduce the number of cards in the core to keep the price low, with little variety. The model they use is probably best. One cheap core set is enough to try their games out, and the extra boxes are optional. It all depends how competitive you want… Read more »
“200+ polar bears sounds like the scariest thing on Earth!! I live in Wales, if we had sheep like that I wouldn’t be for much longer ;)”
Good god man, can you imagine the levels of sexual frustration over there if that were the case!!! (It would start to look like Northern Ireland 😉 lol)
The L5R release schedule… LCGs have had the same complaint since their inception. The card pool doesn’t expand quickly enough after release, so the ‘meta’ gets stale. This strategy will hopefully change that. And it’s not like casual players need to rush straight out and get them all instantly. It’s hopefully a great idea for competitive players.
When it comes to Star Wars, they could put out a two hour film of tie fighters on manoeuvres and I’d merrily pay the entrance fee. I loved Rogue One and the trailer for The Last Jedi looks amazing as well.
And I also remember the toy shop full of Star Wars toys. In my case, there was a department store in Crawley that had a mezzanine floor just devoted to it. My mother would go off clothes shopping while my dad would wait with me while I rummaged through the racks. Great times
I actually feel sorry for kids these days, as the toy experience (while cool in some respects) lacks that sense of ambition (THE COMPLETE STARWARS RANGE!!!! Everything you could ever what ion one place!!!) that was present when I was a nipper!
I don’t the toys have quite the same impact with youngsters today in the same way they did when we were kids. Maybe that because most kids are glued to phone or console playing games rather than playing with toys. I’m not really sure but I just get the impression a lots of kids aren’t that obsessed like we as kids were with Star Wars and the merchandise.
We’re getting old. In the good old days, I remember when toys were toys. I’m not going to feel too sorry for the kids of today, they’ve got some great toys. Lego robots that you can build and then programme to move around? Yes please. VR headsets that you can immerse yourself fully into a world? Why wouldn’t you! As for ambition, perhaps you have a point but the pace of change today largely buries any ambition of owning the complete collection. The next thing is always coming down the track. Back then, with the slower pace and reduced mediums,… Read more »
I thought 200 sleep eating a whale was also scary… killer sheep…!!
Don`t forget “Black sheep ” 2006 killer sheep film
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9-ExKYM5xQY
This movie is epic!
Quality film.
Possibly a very loose definition of ‘quality’!
Great show, loved the polar bear story. Finding myself strangely drawn to star wars destiny after picking up the starter set, @waran you are right those dice are thing of beauty.
Sorry @brennon…I usually bow down to your gaming and lore knowledge, but I have to point out a correction. Doctor Aphra was NOT Darth Vader’s personal Doctor (despite the title) and neither was she strictly the inventor of Triple-Zero or BeeTee. Aphra is an archeologist (hence the title….think Indiana Jones in Space) who was recruited by Vader shortly after the Battle of Yavin, due to some impressive things he had discovered about her. Aphra had stolen the Triple-zero personality matrix, which she just installed into a spare protocol droid body. BT-1 was created by the ‘Tarkin Initiative’ and was found… Read more »
I love it when dorky corrections come spilling out lol
Great stuff Jim 🙂
Well I have been owned – I think I should harass my friend who told me all this knowledge lol
@Brennon while we are at the corrections that is not Barnabus – it’s one of the new solos. We all have bad days
As of 2012 when Disney took brought star wars everything before is classed as Legends (non-cannon). Disney created the Lucasfilm Story Group (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Lucasfilm_Story_Group) to make sure everything that comes out is linked initially, the canon items was the 6 movies, Clone Wars and any new novel. So everything that has been released from then on is cannon including the comics both marvel and darkhorse. The evil R2 and 3PO are creations in Dr Aphra and have not appeared in anything else they only created in the comic. The only extended universe or star wars legends as they are called character… Read more »
@grimwolfuk – BT-1 an 0-0-0 were created by Kieron Gillen for the Darth Vader comic and have since been used by FFG in Imperial Assault and the Star Wars LCGs (and will probably show up in other FFG Star Wars properties too) . You are correct that they are currently in the Dr Aphra comic and haven’t been used in the wider Star Wars universe yet though.
well played @grimwolfuk and @jimsoter , I was all geared up to find you beat me to it.
for my part i’ll add that C-3PO got his red arm from a droid that sacrificed himself for 3PO.
The “angessiv” release with L5R is actually not that agressiv. If you consider that there are 7 clans and the neutral cards…going with 20 new cards per pack devided trough 8…there is not much in each pack. So with the normal release they would not get anywhere soon. I would prefer them to go to deluxe expansions every 4-5 months instead of monthly packs. There would be more cards in one go…so more to play around and discover. Often you need cards from later packs to make full use of the early cards. So…a cycle in one go would be… Read more »
Given that these packs would ordinarily be released over at least six months, then this is undoubtedly an aggressive release schedule. The reason you have an aggressive release schedule is because you want a lot of product on the market in a short space of time, for reasons such as the one you cite.
I really do not like the term “aggressive” here. Its a faster release…yes…but no one is forced to buy everything the moment it comes out…but you can if you want. So if it is not within your current budget…buy later…no problem at all. And please dont give me that “but then I do not have all the options at once” argument….like every player is only playing pro tournements…and can´t now because of a few cards less…redicules. The fact that you are “missing” out on 1-2 Cards for a few weeks for your faction per pack will not make you loose… Read more »
@soulsorcerer
It’s a term that FFG used themselves to describe getting a lot of expansion product out in a short space of time for a new game, which is what they’re doing here. It seems as if you think the term is meant negatively.
You are right…I do think the term is meant negativley…but from those people who do not like the pace of it. I do not think that FFG means it negativly 😉
FFG wants to give options…some players feel forced with that. Different kinds of agressiv release schedule interpretation I guess. 🙂
It isn’t meant negatively :). They’ve decided to release what is usually six months worth of product in six weeks, so it’s an aggressive release schedule 🙂
The game “Detective: City Of Angels” is the first game where you want to be the overlord which is great. However, given the limited number of cases it is an expensive game and will wait for it to come to retail.
Interesting show, a nice range of topics. Guildball’s event is heartbreaking and fantastic at the same time as both Hemlocks are stunning, that masons Decimate though hopefully is destined for the recycle bin as it is in my view the worst guildball mini. Star wars, meh it will be what it is the trailer to me seems to be trying too hard to play the story aspect, but then I have different views on Star Wars than most. Particularly @thisisazreal as I though Rogue one was the best star wars film we have seen. But hey each to thier own… Read more »
Very good point on Guildball mate!
@warzan I love when you go off topic. It is always interesting and sometimes I learn something new in the process.
lol it will always come in useful some day down the pub mate 😉
