Updates
We have a few things to remind you off straight away. There is the competition winner for the Chain Of Command Bundle! If you heard your name make sure to Claim Your Prize and we'll get the goodies over to you.
The BoW Awards are also closed and we're now getting into gear to present the live show in a few weeks. We have assets to make and results to collate but it's looking exciting!
A new article series has also started from Dave Taylor on Painting Wargaming Collections. The first part discussing Inspiration is a great read and really plugs in some interesting facts about getting yourself inspired to paint.
Warren Meets Mat
With the return of Warren, we also have Warren meets mat! This time we're looking at this PWORK design for the Industrial Ruins.
The mat is looking great and represents a neat base from which to build up a tabletop for your Sci-Fi games.

Happy Saturday
It’s theWeekend!!
A weekend for more KD:M modelling and painting… after I’ve watched the weekender on my new 49″ 4k TV. (I just hope everyone’s washed!)
I’m with Az & Ben when it comes to Root. Looks awesom4 and a lot of fun!
It’s just a pity the lads failed in their hunt for root at Essen,, I have no doubt if they had took @dignity the outcome would have been happier 😉
Methinks we may have some of us pledging for it – it is a rather special looking game
I washed specially for the episode
You will never get a cleaner me! 😉
And at 4k that’s 8 times more me right! Lol
I make it 4x … I’m not risking 3d mode! But it will be an Ultra HD Warren!
You mean an ultra FB Warren 😉 lol
Happy Saturday 😀 . @warzan did say ” slap his Nids on the table ” , didn’t he ? It sounded like something else entirely 😉 ….I don’t suppose you brought back a copy of Dragoon from Essen ? Also, check out Full Moon Jacket on KS, if you haven’t already.
Tomorrow morning I get to see just what Az has in his Giant Box of Essen goodness…. Can’t wait!!! … I think lol
So pleased to see a copy of Dragoon 😀 . Now if only the late pledge stays open long enough for me to drop in on it…
That question was asked in my house also, it didn’t help her understand 40k at all
@warzan I got some rattle cans of textured paint from Wilkos and it worked great
Sadly we don’t have wilkos over here but I am sure I’ve seen it at B&Q
Oh no… No Wilkos how do you survive…lol
@commodorerob does it put out enough texture and what colour does it come in?
@warzan This is the stuff I was thinking of
http://www.diy.com/departments/rust-oleum-stone-pebble-stone-effect-textured-spray-paint-400-ml/128272_BQ.prd
Yeah it’s odd stuff mate we have it and have used it, the effect is slightly off at the scales we work at though.
I’ll see if we can give it a test to show the results
I have bleached stone, and pebble, but I sprayed over it with halford’s grey primer for my Dropzone buildings
@warzan TWD season 8 episode 3 is on Monday in the UK it’s the All Out War series
I’m going to get caught up this weekend, is anyone interested in a ‘book club’s style thing where we can chat about the episodes after they air?
I was just kinda glad that Warren didn’t get his special ‘moon’ map out and ask Lloyd to identify the craters and crevices on it by touch
Lol someday… someday… 😉
B&Q does various texture stone effect spray cans: Bleached Stone, Pebble Stone, Sandstone, Black Stone and Cream Stone. Very effective and quick.
Do you not find the scale of the effect to be a little odd and I wonder how well the end result takes weathering on top
A test series is called for on this @johnlyons @lloyd
I really think those Stalingrad buildings would be perfect for an Urban Winter table, especially as Warlord are expanding their winter Soviets and winter German ranges. Shame John just did a winter table as these would look amazing with a bit of BOW magic.
Agreed, but it would be cool to do something with these.
I wonder how well these buildings would work in a modern Afghanistan City type scenario?
Anyone have any opinions or advice on whether we could take the old Soviet city stuff and transplant it into 20th/21st century Kabul?
I used rattlecan textured spray paint to produce some roads/lanes. It was quicker than using sand and pva, but still needed a wash and drybrush to finish.
Do you remember the brand of can you used @osbad?
@warzan hopefully this isn’t too late to reply. I can’t remember off hand, but it was a common one you see at lots of hardware stores – I know Wilko stock it.
The one thing that the rattlecan give you is a very smooth result, I have used it on buildings and as a basis for bases
As for brand I just picked up a few cans on sale in the local Michaels (think Hobbycraft) at first the idea was to try a combined flock/paint on a Lloydian foam hill but it ended with a slightly odd result as it creates a very hard but brittle surface – so I had to look for other usages
Holy Crap I won! I damn near spit coffee all over my laptop!
jammy dance time
Enjoy the goodies 🙂
“You’ve got to test it with your most sensitive part.” Makes the “slap my nids on the tape” a bit more suspect!
table*
stupid autocorrect.
*grumble*
A very erotic episode this week.
Warren and that mat had a real chemistry that was very very apparent when the two of them became intertwined in that loving embrace.
However not nearly as strong a sexual vibe as Ben had with that box – when he laid it on the table I thought the clothes were coming off…and that box was going to get laid on the table for a second time.
For crying out loud next time just get a room!
I mean if you leave me in a room with board games – I will unbox them all slowly and seductively, before caressing every one of their meeples.
So, If Az wants a blue tux and Ben a purple one, you gotta have the rest of the rainbow….the Rainbow BoW crew.
Well I could work out who would be George and Zippy but not sure about Bungle
I am looking forward to go head to head with High Elves against Dwarfs in Warhammer Total War Mortal Empires.
Spam and beans? Not Roast Beef and Yorkshire Pudding. Not strawberries and cream. Not Caviar and Champagne. You went for spam and beans.
Happy Saturday all, Great show!
Great to see Warren Meets Mat again! I’m missed that very much!!
Also… @brennon you play ETS2? 😀 What you driving?!
Warren is downright bubbly and the mood is infectious. Thanks for putting me in a great mood to start off the weekend, guys!
The quickest way I’ve found to get a really good concrete effect is Krylon Natural Stone textured finish paint (granite color). Just prime, spray on the textured paint, and apply a black wash. I used that method for post-apoc bases and terrain, and the result is a nice, grimy concrete look at 28mm scale. For buildings you’d probably want to do some additional weathering, of course.
Great show. But … in all honesty, guys … there’s another article series running on the site at the moment … @elessar2590 ‘s great look into Sharp Practice. Part One has already given us a great narrative skirmish scenario in the American Civil War, 1862:
http://www.beastsofwar.com/sharp-practice/exploring-scenarios-part-one/
Great show as ever, I’ve missed my weekender! My wife and I went to Essen last year for the first time, and it was so awesome. We have been so jealous, not being there this year, hopefully going to PAX Unplugged in a couple of weeks will make up for it!
I think your probably better off introducing your little ones to the whole blind buy thing early on as they are going to come across it at some point and your probably better off controlling those first experiences rather than leaving it to happen elsewhere. That type of thing is becoming more prevalent in our society. Its not just sports, gaming cards its becoming extremely popular in video games and phone apps. There are very few games that come out today without loot boxes or some other such thing As big as we may think MTG and other collectable card… Read more »
I was on the fence about Root, largely because I enjoy too many genres. You pushed me right off the fence, while we’re on the subject of armed animals check out https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/clubfantasci/dawn-of-peacemakers. 1-4 players, campaign and skirmish modes, animal and lizard people minis. Oh and of utmost importance *bird* people minis.
I’m also now extremely tempted by that luxury feel mat and total war, a geek’s expenses are never done…
love it guys if ben was live you should have had Justin on the TV?
Wait there’s a surfer amongst the beasts?! @Lloyd if you’re ever in NZ I’ll happily call you in to a couple waves (+ we’re relatively shark free too!).
Still laughing about the bird peoples and root action 😀
@spamelot, long retired surfer. I could maybe get 1 leg into my wet suite now lol. I honestly don’t know why I still have it 🙂
