The Witcher: Old World Board Game Hits Kickstarter
May 26, 2021 by brennon
Go On Board has now launched their Kickstarter for The Witcher: Old World. This game, set before the events of the famous Fantasy franchise, has you putting on the boots of Witchers as you head out to hunt monsters and make a name for yourself.
The Witcher: Old World // Go On Board
One to five players will explore a vast map of The Witcher world as they take on the aspects of one of the five Witcher schools. You'll undertake perilous quests, face morally grey choices and of course, take on powerful monsters that are threatening the people. You might even find yourself facing down another Witcher or two as you seek to prove your skills.

If you're interested in the game then you can check out the video up above. The team go through a full three-player game giving you an idea of how it all works from turn to turn. I haven't been able to find a rulebook so far but at least there is a video and a short breakdown of gameplay on the Kickstarter. It would be nice to see the rules, even in an early form, so that folks can pour through them.
Pledge Options & More
If this has been enough to get you interested in the game then you can head on over and take a peek at the Kickstarter and this rather hefty pledge...

We're already seeing some good miniatures in the set, at least from the renders, that are in keeping with the world of The Witcher. I like the monster design in particular and the finish of the game components does feel good right now. I am enjoying the look of all of the art and how the game presents itself.
As well as that core pledge, there is also a Wild Hunt Expansion that you can take a peek at too. This adds the deadly force from the last of The Witcher games into the mix as a new threat for your monster hunters.

There is a lot more planned too. The team have talked about adding Mages into the game and loads of Stretch Goals which are getting kicked over as I type. The campaign has obviously gained a lot of traction thanks to it being based around The Witcher so I am crossing fingers that the final product and the gameplay loop for each session feels satisfying.
Are you tempted by this new Kickstarter?

I can’t tell one KS miniatures game from another these days, they all look the same to me. Although this one looks a little more card-driven and “boardgamey” rather than a purely tactical skirmish game, which is probably good since the world of The Witcher is a great IP.
Nice looking game… but the upgrade to the deluxe version…. +55€ for 22 additional minis and 6 plastic tokens… that’s pushing it a bit. And another ~20€ shipping. Nah, I’m good. 😉
This post does not show all the SG. There are far more miniatures already included and there will be close to 40 when they are done.
fantastic figures.
a game with Gerry as the lead character
Bloody hell … how many cards and tokens does this game have (or need) ?
It’s a shame that you need an expansion to play this co-op instead of the default adversarial mode …
You probably read the page correctly before posting. The expansions are free and included. The cards are part of the branching story. As you pick a card you are making a choice A, B or C and your choice has consequences. Each monster has its own cards because there are 4 levels for each monster depending on your current skill level so every fight is not a simple affair. There are not that many tokens. Most are for gold coins
it may be a ‘free’ expansion in the kickstarter (the wild hunt), but if/when this goes retail the co-op mode won’t be in the core set. Also … that expansion has a specific goal. The way the stretchgoals are done (all of them few extra cards/tokens or replacements for tokens) is kind of silly, especially if you consider how the series has relied on specific tactics/gadgets for every monster … The franchise is popular enough (and running on a Polish kickstarter in tandem) so the initial goal (250k) is clearly not enough to produce a good game. They really need… Read more »
well they already on 3.500k
of course they are …
it is a popular writer in Poland, and thanks to the videogames, in these parts too.
I think they could have set the ‘goal’ at 2300k quite easily, but then idiots would have complained about lack of stretchgoals (people always do) and updates (’cause there’d be nothing worth reporting during the kickstarter).
I am soo backing this, it ticks all of my boxes !
