The OP Bring Warhammer 40K To RISK Later This Year
April 24, 2020 by brennon
The Op has announced a new version of RISK which is going to be coming later this year. You are going to be able to dive into the grimdark world of Warhammer 40,000 alongside this board game classic.
Set within the Vigilus sector you’ll be able to play as Space Marines, Orks, Chaos Space Marines, Aeldari and Genestealer Cultists in a fight for dominance of this war-torn corner of space.
As well as featuring gaming pieces which are themed to the forces from this world you’ll also find that you have commanders who are able to draw on different abilities in order to secure their victories across the various planets in the Vigilus sector.
You’ll be able to win by either taking and claiming objectives across the tabletop or through total domination of the sector via strength of arms.
As someone who understands the place of RISK within the board gaming world, it will be interesting to see if the changes they’ve made make it an inviting prospect for wargamers and board gamers alike. Due to the quick and easy nature of the game, it will certainly be a good option for those wanting that 40K kick without having to buy a lot of plastic!
Are you tempted to pick this up?

Quick and easy?
Clearly you’ve not spent 4+ hours battling over the risk battlefield!
I guess I meant mechanically – but yeah, RISK can be a slog
It’s a good game, but if two of you get the ‘destroy colour’ mission it can drag on.
Not sure if it’s changed since my teenage years… which were well over 30 years ago
Aye, it needs an element of “just go for it” from the players to be any good imo. There are games of its ilk which do it better now but looking forward to seeing what the faction powers do in this.
I’m surprised this hasn’t happened sooner
Ooh nice.
an could be a good campaign map?
interesting … use Risk to run the campaign and 40k to play the battles.
(am I having a dejavu moment here ? ’cause I remember writing this before)
I’m surprised GW didn’t insist on Risk Legacy and then you can permanently blow up the universe. Or is that just for WHFB 🙂
This seems kinda pointless, especially given the fact it’s based off an existing strategy game already. Given we have a galaxy map, this would be nice for larger-scale battles, or even as a campaign map (i.e. instead of waging the normal battles in Risk, you wage battles in 40K, and you can use the map to track what planets you’ve conquered.) It’s not quite as absurd as Monopoly, but this does feel a bit like a cheap cash-in.
The OP is the rebranding of USAopoly who produced localized versions of Monopoly. They have produced such classics as the Austin Powers Trivia Game, Battle Yahtzee: Alien vs Predator, and Connect 4: My Little Pony :p
Damn you Kronos, I’d safely written off buying this dross until you pointed out how handy the map would be for campaigns.
No regrets!
