Remember Dungeons & Dragons Onslaught? The miniatures-based board game from WizKids which sets different teams of heroes and villains against each other and a menagerie of monsters? Well, it's still going strong and it has a newly released Starter Set for you to dive into.
Tendrils Of The Lichen Lich Starter Set // D&D Onslaught
Tendrils Of The Lichen Lich gives you everything you need for diving into this team-based clash against your opponent and a deadly selection of miniatures. They have refined and tweaked for format with the Starter Set however to give you teams of three characters per player.
Inside the set, which is entirely standalone, you get the miniatures for both the Emerald Enclave and the Lord's Alliance. They can be played against each other in this set but can also be paired up with other factions from the wider Onslaught collection.

As well as the new characters that you get to play as you'll also get a set of new foes for you to battle against and then finally, the terrible Lichen Lich. All of the miniatures are pre-painted, as is the way with WizKids so you just pop them out of the box and you're ready to go.
You will battle for control of both the city and the forest across new map tiles (rather than the original board that allows for more modularity) and throughout six scenarios.

It sounds like a better starting point for someone wanting to try out Dungeons & Dragons Onslaught than the original Core Set which would set you back another £50 or so. Once you've played through the encounters in this set, you can play them through again as the other faction or mix in new expansion sets from the wider Onslaught range.
I always thought that Onslaught sounded like a great idea but the price point put me off. I like that the Starter Set condenses the experience and makes it more manageable but I'm still not convinced. I like that they have updated the way the map is generated and I still think the Player Vs Player Vs Monster idea is great fun.
Could you be tempted to give Dungeons & Dragons Onslaught a go?

Wizkids really stumbled out of the gate with this game, typical for them. Overpriced, poor quality components, meh game. Looking at the number of expansions they quickly had available it’s obvious they overinvested in its development, and after it flopped they’re doing what they can to salvage it, which they won’t. GameNerdz still has one copy of the original core sets for cheaper than this thing costs.
