Tabletop Is Back For A New Season As They Play Lanterns
November 2, 2016 by brennon
Geek & Sundry's Tabletop is back with Lanterns as the first game played on the show's newest season.
You will be able to watch Episode One and Episode Two over the next two weeks but the change is that the rest of the season will be available on ALPHA before its general release next year in January 2017.
Will you be tuning in for this series?

Good to see this back, was wondering when the new season would begin.
For the uninitiated, what’s ALPHA? Is it some sort of premium subscription service for G&S?
It’s a subscription service by G&S and Nerdist – like a Netflix or an Amazon Prime etc.
Is it only for first airing of new stuff, or will all their old shows move to there and the only way to watch old episodes and new episodes be to subscribe?
Not sure at present – I just know that the stance right now with Tabletop is that all of the new season will be on Alpha first for subscribers then generally on Youtube in January.
Critical Role, for example, will always stay free from what Matt Mercer has said in the past.
As such it’s not completely unlike BoW’s “backstage” bit …
Everybody needs a way to keep the lights on.
And not everyone can generate enough money through sponsored/ad-supported content to make it free for everyone.
It’s kind of sad, because one of the good things about Tabletop was that it was available to anyone from the start.
Now we have to wait a few months before watching it.
It’s as if the new media is re-learning the tricks of old media.
Say hello to the new boss.
Same as the old boss.
Wil get fooled again … 😉
It’s the comparison with Backstage that I see no reason to complain; while it sucks that it delays it coming out, it’s understandable why they’d instigate it and at least it means there’s a chance for more seasons.
And if it proves unpopular, maybe BoW could poach Wil from G&S 😉
Just finished watching, and dunno why but I didn’t find this ep up to the usually standard. Can’t put my finger on it, but it didn’t feel as fun as previous seasons. Hope that’ll improve over the season. :/
Ahhh. I see its hosted by the whhhonderful Whhhil Whhheaton!
Why do you say it that way?.. 😉
fantastic game for family, letter to fat red bastard send >:
This episode seemed a bit off to me. Wil seemed a third wheel on his own show. Game looks fun but the show didn’t seem to show it off very well.
As a backer of the previous season’s crowd sourcing I don’t understand what is going on with the new release schedule.
Maybe it is just Wil’s comb over the is throwing me off. Even Gene Keady gave up on the comb over.
I think it’s a big mistake putting a show like “Tabletop” behind a paywall – the aim of the show is to introduce new games to players, especially casual players who might not play boardgames before. How do you achieve that if you put it behind a paywall?
Surely it would have worked better if they had put ‘extended’ or ‘behind the scenes’ episodes on Alpha? Keep the trimmed episodes for youtube etc but have the full or ‘deluxe’ eps for a subscription fee?
