Stonemaier Games Announce Scythe Metal Mech Expansion
October 30, 2018 by cassn
Scythe is already one of my favourite board games this year, and Stonemaier Games have just made it even cooler with their limited edition run of miniature metal mechs.
The announcement came from Scythe designer Jamey Stegmaier on Instagram during Essen Spiel last weekend. Each copy of the Scythe Metal Mechs Collection will include one of each faction's mechanical behemoths, cast in zinc and inkwashed to highlight individual details. The mechs will be stored in a felt insert, making them ideal for display.
The mechs will have an initial limited run of 4,000 and cost around $50 each. Each Scythe Metal Mechs Collection will be individually numbered and will come with all the necessary pieces for The Rise of Fenris, Scythe's first campaign expansion.
This is a seriously stunning game addition from Stonemaier. Mechanically, Scythe is a fascinating game which rewards complex strategic thought, however, it's refreshing to see that Stonemaier is also concentrating on the aesthetic value of the game.
The Scythe Metal Mechs Collection will be released on November 2nd through the Stonemaier website and in-store at selected partners, but don't worry if you don't manage to snag yourself a copy; if there is significant interest (and we bet there will be), Stonemaier have hinted at releasing more copies at the end of 2019. That's a long wait, however, so dedicated fans can keep an eye on this 2018 release through their website.
Which is your favourite Scythe faction and why? Tell us below!

The models look good can we get some painted pictures soon.
$50 per mech or $50 per full set of them?
Pretty sure that is for the set, otherwise oh my that would be pricey!
Nice metal figures…shame the game is so dull.
Those are some nice looking mechs.
One of my favourite games of recent times, looking forward to playing with the 6 player expansions.
