Stonemaier Drop More Details On New Game, Wingspan
January 5, 2019 by brennon
Stonemaier Games has been working away on a new board game for a little bit now called Wingspan. And, we're now seeing to see more pop up about the game.
"Wingspan is a competitive, medium-weight, card-driven, engine-building board game from Stonemaier Games. You are bird enthusiasts—researchers, bird watchers, ornithologists, and collectors—seeking to discover and attract the best birds to your network of wildlife preserves. Each bird extends a chain of powerful combinations in one of your habitats (actions)."
The game focuses in on a few neat mechanics including...
- Gain food tokens via custom dice in a birdfeeder dice tower
- Lay eggs using egg miniatures in a variety of colours
- Draw from hundreds of unique bird cards and play them
...and if by the end of four rounds you have the most points, you are the winner. If you're a bird lover then this is a game that you'll really want to consider adding to your collection we reckon. I can already hear Cass screaming with joy about this.
As a comparison, they've said that if you like Terraforming Mars or Gizmos this might be up your street. Also, make sure to check out Cass' interview with Jamey Stegmaier HERE where we talk about his thoughts on the gaming world in general.
What do you think?

Can’t wait until proper retail release (March) as reviews like Rahdo’s show it to be an excellent multi-machine builder… and the fact it plays well for 2-player and even solo, well ****-me!

I really like the look of the game so I took the plunge and bought it direct from Stonemaier Games. The on-line reviews have been super positive and the extended game plays have convinced me that I have made a sound choice.
I am expecting delivery well before the end of January maybe around the 20th? (fingers crossed)
Will post images and first impressions.
What I am eager for most of all, is to get the game on the table top, and sharing the experience with my friends.
I’m unbelievably excited, although I’ve made a solid commitment to by it from my FLGS, so it looks like I’ll be waiting until March before I get to play.
The reviews are really positive though, and they’re talking about more expansions already – would it really be the worst thing if I bought it directly from Stonemaier instead? Lol
