Happy Weekend!
Happy Saturday- liking the look of Shadow Games
Is John’s illness eyesight related?
Are You think he has been messing with his tool too much ????
Possibly
It’s the Weekend!
It’s official. I CAN control myself and not back every KS that crosses my path!
Even though I love Malifaux, something about the Other Side didn’t rock my boat. Now I Love the look of some of the SMOG: RoM models, but … I dunno… Aren’t you also meant to like and play the game?
How you haven’t spotted Medioevo Universalis yet I don’t know, but maybe that’s better in XLBS, guess we’ll find out tomorrow!
Warren -Search as I might, on my table’s youTube I can’t find your Song to ‘ding’, but I was able to stick my thumb up it for you – hope that’satisfied you?
I hate autocorrect with a tucking passion! ( yes I let that one go)
Exodus gets interesting when you look at the evolution of language – one thing i found particularly interesting is that the word that is translated to “the Red Sea” has been suggested as also being translatable to “the Reed Sea”, which would shift the path of the Exodus north to the Nile Delta and areas around the Mediterranean shore where you can still find dense areas of reeds today. Now the waters are not very deep in these areas but if you had a particularly strong tidal surge then the power of water flowing back in would be more than… Read more »
‘Red’ and ‘Reed’ sound like similar words in English, but it would be quite a coincidence of the the words for these two things sounded similar in whichever language(s) were used back then, would it not? In Arabic – which is related to Hebrew – the word for red is ‘Ahmar’ while the word for ‘reed’ is ‘Qasab’. (I had to look the last one up, so I can’t be 100% sure that it’s correct.) So they don’t sound anything like each other so it’s hard to believe that a typo or slight mistranslation would see the meanings swapped. I… Read more »
I think I read that they theorised it would have been due to the translation of the written version. It was a good few years ago though so that theory could have been debunked by now….
Every Easter I get out my BBC computer and play Elite for a couple of days
Have you tried the New Version Elite Dangerous on the latest gens of consoles?
I had Elite on my—- I think C64, but it might have been the Amiga. I loved it.
Wow BBC Micro that is a blast from the past..
Did it have anything to do with the Auntie BEEB????
@torros can’t beat a master b elite and repton!
I only had the original one but then we upgraded it to 32k and got a disc drive. Best days
We had a BBC Model B and had Elite… Vector graphics were amazing…I got Elite Dangerous it’s just not the same.
makes me laugh now how in the 80’s we could not get over the blisteriing power of 8bits, and the blistering speed of 950 khz was well blisteringly fast.
Also you could take a tape recorder around a mates listen to electronica dance music for a few hours and take home a copy of every one of his games. Spend a day programming a game in from the latest issue of C+VG and it would not bloody work. Ah great times.
I still think fondly of Cassandra Cardetti and BIgge RED.
Yes, BBC Micro did come from the BBC. My first ever experience with a computer was a BBC Micro with 1K of RAM, playing Elite at junior school. A group of us hadn’t been able to take part in a sports lesson for some reason, so the Maths teacher showed us Elite.
I’ve played Elite Dangerous (it is gorgeous) but my mouse control is really off now, so maybe the RPG might be the way to go for me..
As of my fathers work I grew up all over the world , mostly schooling in developing nations. We never had computers at school . My constant travel companion was my C64 and Commodore crt monitor. I was a star when I took it in to class and showed basic use, game creation, and playing. At the teachers request . We had a computer class on it on most fridays in which at 10- I was the instructor and the teacher was a class mate,
Africa and far east in the 80’s were awesome for an 8 yr old Brit.
Also great way to make friends . Show up in a new country/ area go to a new school and on first day when introduced tell the teacher and class about c64 , and about bringing it in to class at end of week and doing a computer club and how i have done it ( letters from other teachers) before.
@warzan , if you fancy a game that has more than a dash of Elite in it’s dna yet won’t make your pc weep at it’s system specs, can I recommend Independence War 2: Edge of Chaos? I still have fond memories from playing this back in the day. It doesn’t quite have the same scope of Elite, but does have a number of star systems to play around in, with a fairly decent narrative. Bonus points as most of the ships you fly aren’t super-sleek fighters, instead you get tugs and 100 metre-plus corvettes, married to some lovely “real”… Read more »
Elite:Dangerous doesn’t make your pc weep.
Star Citizen does … (if it manages to live up to the hype and get finished that is)
Rebel Galaxy is another alternative : http://rebel-galaxy.com/
It has a bit of that Firefly vibe in the soundtrack.
Happy weekend great show. The wood floor mat is really interesting. You could overlay a sea effect with two cut outs of ships and do a ship to ship game. Please send a get well soon to john I hope he is taking it easy and hasn’t gone home to play with his tool instead.
Happy Weekend!
Oh good grief, Johns Tool, Dinging your dong and the Warren meets mat intro, seriously guys.
Relic Knights look awsome, more content on it please 🙂
Elite Dangerous rpg. Oh no, I’m trying to stay away from KS this year, Help Me!
Great show guys 😀
A new youtube sensation is born, first there was the dubbly do, now we have ding on their dong to show your love. Remember everyone it’s not enough to be subscribed ding on their dong.
Ha ha ha
Bloody Heck Warzan . Well done mate you have lost so much weight, looking great dude. I bet the wife is Happy 😉 😉 😉 I had to watch the Crunking scene a few times before i recognised you. But be careful loosing weight too fast can be unhealthy, and lead to a rapid regain. Anyhoots well done Duder. I take my hat of to you sir and offer 3 cheers ; HUSSAR, HUSSAR, HUSSAR .. Keep up the good work and truly well done you are looking very trimmed down. . Oh I hope Savannah Christmas play went well,… Read more »
Weekend off to a good start again.
Warren, looks like you’re into Mat a little too much in the segment intro.
Use the floor mat for a Walking Dead barn razing (purposefully misspelled). Put some horse stalls and hay piles all over it.
He is married with 3 kids. You have to get your action how and where you can :p
It may be sacrilege but I do have an idea for the lovely deepcut mat you showed us all today. I would cut it up and use it to line the floors of my buildings which don’t have any patterning in them. I have quite a few from the likes of TT Combat and think this would work a treat as their floors and help protect from chipping if the models fall over inside them. With it being such a large mat I think I would have plenty left over for things like walkways, Who knows maybe the combination of… Read more »
Dude Neoprene floors ????
its gaming , not studio 54 in New York 1980’s. Ahh !!! Fun Fun times but ouch is glitter painful in the undies
The new Dark Age miniatures are looking fantastic.
Elite (on the Spectrum) and Frontier were awesome. I sunk a lot of hours into those in my youth. Then along came the X series. The chance to build your own space stations and then fly between the struts? Awesome stuff and more hours lost. I’ve been deliberately ignoring Elite Dangerous but I’m now feeling drawn to checking out the minimum spec to see if it will run on my PC…….
I play it on a simple core I3 PC with a 4 generations old nvidia graphics card. You can’t have all the bells and whistle graphi options turned on but it runs fine, even the landing on planets bit with procedural generation. I Don’t get a lot fo time, like my hobby, but I do have an Asp Explorer spaceship and a space buggy to run around on planets. This last few weeks saw the first sightings of aliens in the game, and it is, without doubt, the most atmospheric scene in any game I have ever played. They drag… Read more »
runs great on my Pavillion notebook
Nice show guys, it dinged my dong
@warzan If I were going to use this week’s deep cut mat, I would make a 40k space marine chapter cathedral. Imagine rows of pews and colums. Side rooms of Confessionals and chapels, a rectory. Then using stone walls for the exterior to bring it all in. Maybe a dais at one end for the alter. For something completely odd to use it for, come up with a Pin setter terrain, a ball return, and a way to mark the gutters and lane separators, and you have an entire hard wood bowling alley.
I used to love Frontier, too @warzan!
Memories of making runs between Barnard’s Star and Wolf 359 (or was that the system with the big Borg battle in Star Trek?) in that cool ship with the three nacelles… Ah…. proper space flight physics.
The game box came with a big “flight manual” and novella – you don’t get that these days!
But the music! Wow… that was the game that gave me an interest in classical music: In the Hall of the Mountain King, Great Gates of Kiev, Night on Bare Mountain – ridiculously cool!
The new one is the same, in fact I fitted a docking computer on my ship in Elite Dangerous just so i could listen to the music played again like i did back on my Acorn Electron.
Agreed. As much as I loved playing the game, the music is what has stayed with me all these years later. It still makes me tingly!

Happy Saturday. I hope that 2 sided mats start to become a trend. They just makeso much sense and you get more for your monies.
The dream mat would be if deepcut did the beach and cobblestone town on a 2 sider.
On the whole exodus thing it sounds like they are hammering the “evidence” to fit their desired outcome
Okay, that mat, you get a tone of tables and chairs, a bar and a piano, now you the inside of a malifaux casino 🙂
Have a great weekend guys! ^^
Weekenders on, all is ok with the universe.
Elite Roleplaying Game! Weeeeeeeeeee!!! I was a massive fan of Frontier (on my Amiga) back in the days, and I do play Eleite Dangerous now, whenever I have the time (and don’t have a paintbrush in my hand instead). I’m so gonna get my greasy hands on this. It’s the best news in like forever.
But first of to Ding the Dongs on all things Bow on Youtube 🙂 Thanks for yet another awesome weekender, and for the chance to win a fun looking game. Looking forward to the play through on monday.
Elite, SimCity 2000 and morrowwind are perhaps the greatest computer games ever made hate to think of the years I’ve invested into them now an elite rpg am seriously excited 😀 😀 😀 😀
Wow, Frontier was a kick-ass game!
