Steamforged Announce Guest Writers For Bardsung Board Game
November 2, 2020 by brennon
Steamforged Games has announced that three special guest writers are going to be joining forces with them when Bardsung comes to Kickstarter on 10th November.
You can learn more about what else has been revealed about the new Bardsung dungeon-delving board game HERE. However, this week saw the news that the team at Steamforged Games are going to be joined by Rhianna Pratchett, Ian Livingstone and Sara Thompson when it comes to bringing the world of Bardsung to life.
If the game hits its funding target then the extra content from all collaborators on the project will be included for all those who back the game. Rhianna Pratchett will be creating a campaign storyline and adventure for the game whilst Ian Livingstone and Sara Thompson will be producing adventures.
Rhianna Pratchett
Rhianna helped in the rebirth of the Lara Croft franchise and has worked on games such as Heavenly Sword, Mirror's Edge and the Overlord series. She had this to say about her collaboration...
“I’m delighted to be working with the talented Bardsung team to create unique narrative adventures for both old and new Steamforged fans. I’m already thinking about how the player characters can draw from the remains of the oldest magic to contend with the frightful ways I’ll be plotting to kill them. Go Team Tortle!”
Ian Livingstone
Ian Livingstone is one of the greats of the industry including co-founding Games Workshop as well as being a part of the massive Fighting Fantasy series. He said...
“Bardsung resonates with me in multiple ways from the board games I enjoy playing to the fantasy books I’ve written. I was delighted to be invited to contribute to Bardsung and go back to the fun of designing trap-filled and monster-infested dungeons to lure players to their doom!”
Sara Thompson
Sara Thompson is a writer and advocate for better disability representation in tabletop roleplaying games. She recently wrote and designed mechanics for the Combat Wheelchair in Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition and has worked as a sensitivity reader for R.Talsorian Games on The Witcher. She also worked with Steamforged Games to design miniatures for the Combat Wheelchair too! She said...
“What excites me about Bardsung is the method of its storytelling - not relying on the players to own multiple books full of rules. You get to just sit down and tell a story with friends, choosing an outcome together. I've always enjoyed that about Choose Your Own Adventure books, so getting to see it put into a game format is really cool!”
This all sounds rather cool and I can't wait to learn more about the different stories that these writers and Steamforged are going to be telling as part of the Bardsung experience. I have a feeling this is going to be a fun Kickstarter to follow if the build-up is anything to go by!

Sounds good will be interesting to see the new ideas they can think for the games environment.
Suddenly i’m interested.
What sort of experience have they had writing scenarios for previously released boargame dungeoncrawlers? Remember, these adventures have to be thoroughly playtested, and, personally, I’d look for boardgame playtesting experience over anything else.
I would imagine that they will come to this with a creative idea and then work with the Steamforged Games team to make sure that it works mechanically within Bardsung. I doubt these are being written in isolation and I’m sure there will be people on hand to help make them viable for the game.
