Steamforged Delve Into The Details Of Elden Ring: The Board Game
October 21, 2022 by brennon
Steamforged Games has been dropping more information on what's coming for Elden Ring: The Board Game. Slated for Kickstarter on 22nd November 2022, the game promises to be a neat blend of exploration and deadly combat, much like the video game it's based on.

You can sign up to get notified of the launch of the Elden Ring: The Board Game Kickstarter right now by heading on over to the landing page. What this did show off is the Collector's edition box that comes with your pledge for the Kickstarter. Within boxes like these, you'll find your board game plus any of the expansions that are unlocked throughout the campaign for a given pledge. It looks very fancy indeed.
But, it's always nice for a Tarnished to travel in The Lands Between prepared...
Exploring & Fighting In Elden Ring: The Board Game
Some more details on the game have been popping up over on the Steamforged Games Blog. Recently, they talked about what form the game will take and how it has evolved into a campaign game which will include both exploration and heaps of skill-based combat.

On the adventuring side of things, players will be delving into a modular tile exploration system where locations and landmarks will be revealed as you wander The Lands Between. This means that the space before you will serve as both your game board and your map. You'll be able to trade with merchants, find and talk with well-known NPCs and battle against the enemies that patrol their territory fiercely.
Now, anyone who has played Elden Ring will know that the game is HUGE. So, the core of Elden Ring: The Board Game will be focused on Limgrave and the Weeping Peninsula, two of the earlier portions of the video game. These areas are expansive in their own right and more than enough to house a game so I'm looking forward to the detail Steamforged put into bringing these locations to life. Future expansion products will then unveil more of The Lands Between and continue your campaign-based story.
Elden Ring: The Board Game - Troll // Steamforged Games
Whilst exploring is fun in Elden Ring, the core of the experience comes from battling terrifying enemies through skill and careful planning. Steamforged is hoping to replicate that with players using a dedicated attack deck based on your arms, armour and equipment that allows you to be more precise with your strikes rather than relying on dice-based combat. I've loved the card-based combat of Gloomhaven and Journeys In Middle-earth so I am intrigued to see what they do here.
A Tarnished will also have a damage deck which will be customised and upgraded as the game continues and you increase different statistics. I am interested to see how this works in particular as it's going to have to deal with the brutality of Elden Ring's combat whilst also feeling, at least in part, fair.
It all sounds very intriguing at the moment and as someone who likes Elden Ring, I am eager to learn more.
Will you be keeping an eye on Elden Ring: The Board Game?

Fab looking figures I see Gerry go into this game.?
The miniatures look great, so let’s hope the gameplay is up there as well. Elden Ring is one of my favourite video games in recent years (probably since Sekiro, Fromsoft’s previous game).
Those are some nice looking sculpts.
I’m not short of trolls but if that one becomes available in its own I’ll have it!
