Steamforged Discuss Community & Dark Souls: The Board Game
September 12, 2022 by brennon
Steamforged Games has begun talking more about the work going into the new revised version of Dark Souls: The Board Game and by extension, the new Core Sets that will be available to pick up in the near future.

One of the first things that Steamforged talked about in their latest blog (which you can read in full HERE) is that these new Core sets won't invalidate anything you already have. They can be blended into your existing collection and used alongside those components. Mechanically, however, things will have been changed and you'll want to be up-to-date with those changes if you're a fan of the game.
Additionally, the new Core Sets will introduce campaign mechanics to your Dark Souls adventures on the tabletop. So, you're going to be getting a new campaign system, a new events system, and, of course, new enemies and new bosses.

As well as discussing some of the broader changes, the folks at Steamforged also wanted to talk about some of the work done alongside the community. They took plenty of advice and made lists on a lot of the homebrew rules people were using for the board game. Using that, they have revamped blocking and dodging, how many sparks you start with, the benefits of two-handed weapons, aiding with downtime in player turns, and much more.
Let's Play: Dark Souls - The Board Game [Part One]
It seems like this has been a proper big effort to build on and tweak the Dark Souls experience to bring it more in line with what the community wanted. It's always nice to see a game revised and reinvented, especially with help from those that probably play the game most weekends!
As mentioned, you can learn more about the changes HERE and delve into more content from Steamforged ahead of release soon.

Great to see some new content for this game and nice to see a developer working with the community (although where this happened I have no idea). As for house rules, I’ve always split the treasure deck into early and late game items and altered soul acquisition slightly for campaigns.
