CMON & CD Projekt Red Team Up For Cyberpunk 2077 Card Game
August 2, 2019 by brennon
CMON and CD PROJEKT RED have joined forces to work on a new Cyberpunk 2077 card game, Afterlife: The Card Game.
It seemed like this was inevitable, given the hype surrounding Cyberpunk 2077 which should be out in 2020. Created by Eric Lang and Andrea Chiarvesio this already has some good hands at the tiller so it will be fun to see what they do with the mechanics to make it feel fresh and interesting, as well as tying it into the themes of Cyberpunk.
The focus of the game is that you're playing as Fixers. You are the ones masterminding the day-to-day skullduggery in Night City so you'll be recruiting Cyberpunks, giving them gear and sending them out on missions. Using drafting and a dashboard players must decide what they can afford to buy and equip whilst also watching the bottom line. After all, your benefactors might come calling.
As you succeed in missions your street cred will raise and no doubt the person with the highest street cred at the end of the game is going to be the winner. I would imagine it won't be long until we find out a lot more about the gameplay for Afterlife. I am very hyped about the video game and card games always catch my eye so it will be fun to see how this one plays.
Are you intrigued?

Netrunner? Is that you?
If it came from FFG it would be 😉
I believe Fantasy Flight lost the rights to Netrunner. So I am hoping there will be a new Netrunner game by someone other than FFG.
The Netrunner mechanics are owned by Wizards of the Coast. The Android universe is owned by FFG. This is CMON so both of those are off the table. So many questions about this, will it be a CCG (I’m out, don’t have time to chase cards any more) or a LCG (all inclusive monthly buy ins). Is it locked at two player or can you get 4, or more, at the table. How do you support the image of being the fixer, you but a team into play, how do you show a chance for failure? Can you add a… Read more »
This looks quite different to Android: Netrunner. If anyone here were interested in Netrunner you might want to check out what NISEI are doing.
When I saw the first trailer for 2077 I was impressed… but it’s so long ago that I have lost interest and with it being Windows only… not going to buy a new PC for one game.
Netrunner card game did not impress me, so no interest in a similar card game.
It is not Windows only. Console versions are listed in their current marketing materials.

Besides this game I would like to try the original cyberpunk 2020 game https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyberpunk_2020
