I’m ex forces myself, got out 4 years ago after 14 years in, so modern miniatures games do generate some elements for me that other games, even guns and tanks games like 40k,do not usually generate. I have some stuff for spectre, and enjoy the system. Looking forward to 2nd ed. I’ve seen alot of blogs rocking ops in helmand, initial invasion of Iraq tank battles etc, and oriskany did a banging series on Ukraine while it was still warm. I do t think it’s immoral or damaging to broach theses subjects in a gaming format. They don’t have the… Read more »
Thanks, @jockjay – That Ukraine series was quite a ways back, we might revisit that soon in Sitrep. If nothing else, I want to break out the Panzer Leader 2014-2015 Russia vs. Ukraine vs. DPR / LNR separatist expansion again! 😀
Great podcast guys 🙂
Doing well Jim @oriskany 🙂 hope all with you
Just one thing, Corporal Allen survived 😀
What’s up, @buggeroff ! Hope you guys had a blast with Rorke’s Drift! 😀 Big games are the best!
All goood here 🙂 it was a great game, get to play with Gianna, Cad, Gaz and Lloyd aganist Ben, Warren, Justin… hmm think I may have forgotten someone. When your over again get Gerry to roll it out. He’s tweaked the rules and it’s great fun, didn’t notice the length of time. BigBen was great to play against and listen too. Now we just need Gianna (@stvitusdancern apply the pressure 🙂 :)) to get Ben to do ‘The Mog’ lots of talk about that. now that could be a great massed battle
I’m very interested in a US boot camp for Spectre or UltraModern. Just don’t schedule it in Chicago in the winter!
Getting snowed in with a bunch of gamers, there could be worst ways to spend a weekend 😉
Chicago Moderns-themed boot camp – name the place and date and I will be there.
on the subject of NAM are any of yous gong to try the black sun game coming out or is that to far from the norm.?
I can’t speak for everyone in Sitrep , @zorg – but just for me … no. Like most historical settings, layering a “weird war” just feels off-putting to me. I feel Vietnam should just stay Vietnam. Just my opinion, of course. I hear the miniatures are still great, though. Maybe the game is playable as just “normal” US, USMC, ARVN, NLF/VC, PAVN/NVA, ANZAC? Don’t get me wrong. If the setting is something “theoretical” or “fictional” or “five minutes in the future,” I have no issue tossing in supernatural or sci-fi element. Example: Predator. The difference (at least for me) is… Read more »
From what I’ve read it may be an interesting mix of slider’s meat’s tour of duty which is probably more suited to draw in 40K player’s ?
Tour of Duty was a good show, at least the first season. 😀 I think they got the **** sued out of them for unauthorized use of Rolling Stones music in the opening credits.
Yes I liked tour of duty as well I didn’t know they got sued on the theme tune.
I have all three season here 🙂
Great show Interesting talk about the piece from the Daily Fail – as @oriskany I personally can seen a use for a vignette like that – place the hostage down and we all know the meaning of that, and that is more than enough. Should I at somepoint drift into the period (AKA should @oriskany come up with a V&V mod for it, knowing my local gaming group this is not their cup of tea, and it could become divisive) it would feel a little too much, just like we don’t normally need casualty markers for everyone, unless there game… Read more »
Great point, @rasmus – in modern-era wargames like V&V Vietnam or Force-on-Force, the casualty or POW tracking actually has a definitive, tangible game effect on the rules, not only does it add tension and realism and “weight” to the game, but it’s an important counter-balance to the regular armies’ immense advantages in mobility and firepower.
