Warhammer Quest: Silver Tower Now Available For Pre-Order
May 14, 2016 by brennon
The new version of Warhammer Quest entitled Silver Tower is now available for you to pre-order from Games Workshop. This new version of the game finds itself based within the new realm of Age of Sigmar...
Above is what you get inside this rather jam packed version of the game. It's got a whole bunch of plastic miniatures for both the heroes and villains that we'll look at later but first here's a bit of background on this new game.
"Some who tackle the Silver Tower seek a boon from the Gaunt Summoner, others wish to learn his true name, that they might destroy him.
All must face foul, writhing monsters, bizarre, labyrinthine corridors bristling with traps and strange, maddening riddles before they even gain the chance to stand before his fell sorcery.
The greatest champions, those who grow in strength over time as they solve the Silver Tower's secrets, even they may fall at this hurdle - yet the riches, power and freedom they could gain drive them ever forward.
But for every tale that ends in glory, another falls short, bringing only madness and despair..."
Heroes & Villains
One of the big things about this game are the miniatures which have been almost entirely loved by those that have seen them. We've taken a look at the heroes before this week but we'll show off the Knight Questor and Darkoath Chieftain below...
You can see the rest of the Heroes HERE. The real gems from this set however come in the form of the fantastic monsters that you'll be facing including the Gaunt Summoner himself who might have a few tricks up his sleeve. I'm not sure I'd want to summon him!
This truly is a fantastic looking miniature which is only dominated by possibly my favourite piece from the set in the Ogroid Thamaturge.
This is a great looking beast with plenty of potential when it comes to painting.
If you're interested in the other masses of miniatures that will be available then you only need to click the links above to find out more.
The Game
So now we've seen the pretty miniatures what about the game? Well, according to the video above and with some poking around online it looks like you're trying to assemble the shards of the shattered amulet and force the Gaunt Summoner to face you.
The game is then influenced by a range of Destiny Dice which will decide how perilous your next step will be. You will then roll dice and assign them to particular actions for your character - allowing you to attack, heal, charge forth and explore.
One of the neat things about the game is that it goes back to the old classic design where exploration is done through cards which develop the dungeon as you go. It's very old school and I like the idea of a dungeon changing slightly each time you play.
The game is looking unique with some interesting heroes that all do something that little bit different. One hopes that is the same for the Adventures you'll be undertaking but it does look as if Games Workshop have pulled out all the stops.
There is even a Companion App that helps you track a lot of your progress through the campaign which is a neat addition.
Will you be braving the world of Warhammer Quest?
"...possibly my favourite piece from the set is the Ogroid Thamaturge."

first heard about it I wasn’t all that sure but now I’m intrigued, mini’s are looking good and I’m curious to see how it plays!! Warhammer Quest was my entry, same as plenty others – just hope if it’s carried out well it’ll be the start of something bigger!
Been giving this a lot of thought this last week;
Warhammer quest … no, Massive Darkness … but Warhammer looks better … or does it? I mean Massive Darkness does look good … but I’ll just buy Warhammer Quest anyway … No I won’t, I’ll wait for Massive Darkness. That’s settled then.
Then Boom! Preorders are up and my order is in!
I’m so weak willed 🙁 … 😀
I’m exactly the same.
What is mere mortal will before the power of the Changer of Ways? 😉
I’m still undecided..
I really like the miniatures (even the lefty Stormcast..cool!) and with 20% off retail price offers around probably proper good value as well BUT I’m still don’t feel at home in the AoS world and I think a dungeon crawler lives from storytelling. So for me it’s due to lack of atmosphere still only a ‘maybe’.
I want one. Pure and simple.
At least the Villains still look like Warhammer. The wannabe space marine heros you can keep. If the rest of the contents live up to the old Quest it will be well worth picking up. Just dump the AoS crap and move on.
I’m thinking of a simple head swap on the knight and that’s it.
I like the minis, I don’t like the setting or the floor tiles.
This will probably come down to reading some honest game play reviews.
I don’t understand why anyone would pre-order unless they are only buying for the minis?
The reason I don’t like the floortiles is just the psychedelic colour scheme they’ve got going on. FInd it hard to feel a sense of place when the place is so otherworldly. I prefer a good ole fashioned dungeon!
I really want this now, but the money! Even with discount from certain sites, it’s a lot to pay at once. I kinda wish this was being released 3 or 4 months from now asmy wallet would be in a better position for it then!
Just wait 3 or 4 months, you don’t need to buy it today. By then you’ll also have the benefit of knowing if the game is actually worth the money or not.
So I watched some peeps play this while I had a look through the rulebook – this is definitely not the WHQ I remember! Characters progress during the game by drawing 2 cards from a generic skills deck and choosing 1 to keep, although you can carry your progress over from game to game ito doesn’t seem like your character will have the flavour of its class beyond its starting stats/abilities. There’s no town to visit and get up to hijinks in and there are a few stupid mechanics that have the flavour of the Warscrolls released for Old World… Read more »
I watched a game as well. And my first thought when I saw the stacking the dice thing was “that’s kinda dum” but then when it was happening it was kinda fun. It gives it a bit more of a feel of a board game than of war game. I think when playing with friends it is kinda fun because you get to make fun of them while they try to do the little task. Over all I thought the game looked like a lot of fun and if playing with your friends I think you’d have a lot of… Read more »
Models are nice largely, not nice enough for me to buy, but your thoughts on the game are mine – so I will stick with the old game, or advanced heroquest or both.
Thanks for that. It’s given me pause for thought and I’ll wait til more reviews come out. My greatest fear is that the game will lack long term replayability.
Dice stacking as a rule mechanic isn’t what I would have expected…
Does anyone know what size the tile squares are?
The models are awesome @geekaylee the game play is certainly ‘different’ I have a few videos on it on my channel if you want some more in depth thoughts.

Those enemy models are really nice.
They have definatly glanced at claustrophobia with the dice assigning mechanic … overall this looks like a quality product, definatly a discounted pre order placed
The minis are great, however, having seen the game in the flesh today at Fest, I actually decided against it 🙁
It’s definitely a board game and not so much a dungeon crawler. Gameplay wise, reading the adventure book, it’s very much in the vein of the old Fighting Fantasy books, a la “Go to 46 if you killed a goblin”. I’m definitely going to hold fire for the time being
Loads of people seem to have seen this played today, were they all at Warhammer Fest? If so I’m a bit jealous, would have loved to have been able to go.
I pre-ordered one from Element Games (which is my F”L”GS) today for £75 although I’m slightly disappointed that they aren’t actually doing any kind of launch event. On the flip side I can go and collect it from Mid Day Friday so I might head over to my nearest GW to see if they’re doing anything cool for the launch
The minis look great. I like the bad guys most. Wish they did make a plastic Keeper of Secrets though 🙁
already peorderd 🙂 could not wait
Minis look great, everything seems to be high Quality. I would preorder today if there was no Massive Darkness incoming. So I’ll probably hold on to my Money and decide during the Massive Darkness Kickstarter.
I have done a few videos on it if you guys are interested.

Just throwing it out there if you want to take a look I will be putting up more soon.
Why would people pre-order this?
Is there any freebees given? Otherwise it seems raher meaningless to part with your money in advance when you can just wait for reviews.
It’s not like it’ll sell out immediately and never be sold again.
Pre order discounts?
Pre-order it and you get the special edition character cards
They were definitely on a big push to big this game up at Fest
Are you sure about that?
There’s nothing mentioned on the webstore about any extra stuff gained by pre-ordering.
Yeah there is and its added automatically to your shopping cart.
I can’t see anything of the sort.
Old WHQ far better IMHO and some great sites still going.
In the end, though I was tempted to buy WHQ-ST, I guess I wont buy after all. Its not like there arent tons of tile based dungeon crawlers these days to choose from and I would rather choose something I can play out ouf the box without the need to assemble over 50 Miniatures which is a lot of work even without painting them.
looks interesting.
Praznagar wants his Shattered Amulet back… 😉
Seriously though, it’s nice to see a nod to AHQ (still my favourite of the GW dungeon-crawlers, despite being a bit clunky in places)!
Some lovely minis in this set (that Thaumaturge!); it’s just a shame it’s more of a ‘true boardgame’ than a ‘crawler… I’ll wait and see if they reintroduce a Roleplaying Book or similar, down the line…
