New Shadespire & Necromunda Gangs Coming This Weekend
February 6, 2018 by brennon
Games Workshop welcomes two new warbands to Warhammer Underworlds: Shadespire this weekend, as well as a new gang to the tight confines of Necromunda: Underhive.
Leading the way we have these fiery Duardin, The Chosen Axes. They are led by Runefather Fjul-Grimnir, hunting down the precious Shadeglass of the dead city and maybe severing the heads off some bad guys in the process.
The set comes in pre-coloured orange plastic and as well as the cards for this specific warband you'll also get additional cards which can be used by other warbands too.
Scampering Skaven
The Chosen Axes will be coming up against an ancient enemy of their kin with Spiteclaw’s Swarm. This band of Skaven are fast and deadly, the opposite to The Chosen Axes with their slow and steady methodology.
Once again, the set comes with pre-coloured miniatures in a brown plastic alongside all of the relevant cards and gubbins you'll need to play with them on the tabletop. Both sets are looking great, giving you some dynamic models to play with on the tabletop.
I particularly like the Skaven with a thin dagger clutched in his tail, a weapon your enemies might not see coming.
Underhive Brawling
As well as an expansion to their Fantasy range, we're also seeing a new Gang become available for Necromunda: Underhive with the Orlocks.
The Orlocks bring with them a new selection of unique weaponry and the skills with which to use them. You'll not be lacking for firepower when it comes to these fellows on the tabletop. The boxed set gives you enough parts to build ten models and then all manner of options to make them unique.
With a new gang comes a new environment to play your games in. You will also be able to snap up the Badzone Delta-7 set which gives you nine new double-sided tiles for use in your games.
The aesthetic is also still very similar to what you got in the core box so if you were looking to do a bit of mixing and matching this also gives you options in that department too. I wasn't sold on the idea of tiles for the game, but having seen them used in a number of different battle reports they are actually probably a lot easier for folks to use than creating a gaming table from scratch.
All you have to do with these is grab a few 3D elements for cover and such and you have some rather good looking tabletops. You could even throw a tower or something larger into some of the bigger open spaces on the tiles if you wanted to add some height to the mix.
What do you think of the new releases coming your way?

While that Skaven warband is rather good as some one who doesn’t like Slayers I am not sold by that dwarf warband made from them. Orlocks look great and are my 2nd favorite from so far released Gangs.
Oh, Orlocks. And I haven’t even finished my Goliaths yet. Yikes!
they look fabulous & the Orlock gang can work for many games.
I hardly get hyped by GWs offerings these days. All shown above is so barebones and without any remakable highlights.
why are the rats hairless? they look like renders for another model they stuck rat faces on, also they need to release battle boards for shadespire like they are doing with necromunda, lots of warbands for the game but having to buy 2 main boxes to play more than 2 warbands is very frustrating and exactly the kind of shitty move i thought gw had put behind them, shame.
I think the honest answer is that fur is hard to sculpt on a computer
Fur isn’t too hard. Tooling it for injection moulding is the hard part (no undercuts)
Orlocks aren’t really my favourite gang but I will be purchasing them ….so I can add an orlock themed squat
I can see all of these heading my way lol. Necromunda is kind of a hobby on its own and I have been looking for a warband for Shadespire too after my brother got into it and I think those Fyreslayers are the one for me. I suspect my brother will want the Skaven too.
Some of the orlocks look nice, but shaved rats? That’s a new low.
The orlock bases look a lot like some of the ones I’ve been making by cutting out discs from my old video cards.
ah not release THIS weekend, but you can “pre-order”. The one thing that’s annoying me about the Necromunda releases is the need to (a) buy a 48 page book (probably either £10 or £15…taking the micky if they charge £15 tho), AND (b) deck of cards (£9) just to use the gang in Necromunda (putting total spend up to (£44-£49).. ….talking about eking out your profit. If GW have indeed gone back to their old “roots” and being customer friendly (rather than the hated GW that existed a few years ago that was quite happily pricing out their fanbase), they… Read more »
I feel like Llyod with these dwarves. Show us butts or shut up GW.
Time for some ‘Sons Of Anarchy’ head-swaps from Mad Robot Miniatures!

(for the Orlocks not the Duardin 😮 )
I like the pinky Skaven 🙂
I thought Necromunda would go straight into tall scenery.
But the new boards mean maybe I should get the Deathray MDF walls???

Anywhere in the UK sell them?

I like the skaven, nothing special but well executed. Slayers are the nicest of the recent sculpts (especially flu-grim or whatever the daft name is) but I still think they missed a trick with the concept.
Orlocks, my first gang in necromunda, frankly a horrible re-imaging (fat sons of anarchy got drunk with starcraft pirates). Bare plastics from the weekender look nicer but just don’t like the aesthetic.
Yay, Orlocks.
