Space Invaders was a defining game of my childhood. Heading out to the arcade to take down all of the ships, discs and aliens that wish to make their way to the bottom of my screen. After years of success, the game has been reworked, upgraded, and translated to other digital platforms to keep the space hype alive.

Now Space Invaders will be heading onto the tabletop in a new dexterity board game, simply entitled Space Invaders from Buffalo Games.

Space Invaders // Buffalo Games

Did you ever play a board game called Flip Ships? Designed by Kane Klenko, this fun little board game thrust players into the action of defending the planet against firepower from above. Aiming against ships above and hoping to take down the beast of a mothership before it is too late - whilst juggling the incoming fire!

It was quite well known that this concept was familiar to gamers, as it resonated with the theme of Space Invaders. And now, Kane Klenko is working on the official Space Invader Board game, taking some of those familiar mechanics into fruition.

Similar to Flip Ships, players must work cooperatively to take on the looming threat from above. As players will take turns to discuss the correct strategy to flourish into safety. Whether this means taking down the closest ship, or tactically removing one enemy to allow further reach. The decision is down to the player and how they go about stopping the aliens from getting to the bottom is a team task to discover.

I always found myself upset as a child because I could never beat my sister's high score. A really lovely feature that has been added to the title is the hi-score system. Allowing players to become competitive with themselves, to beat their own score every time the game is played.

If you have access to a Target, you will be able to get your hands on this new title in two days time, releasing on July 25th however if you are like me and living somewhere not in the US, we will just have to wait another week for the general release on August 1st.
