Root has become more and more popular over time, with expansions, playmats and accessories for the game readily available, Leder Games have added a brand new expansion to Kickstarter with the Marauder Expansion.
What In This New Expansion? // Root: The Marauder Expansion
In the Marauder Expansion, you will get the chance to explore the woodland further, collecting and recovering relics and discovering new faction combinations.
New Mechanics & Factions
There are new head-to-head matchups with customization to the game once more, giving you more ways to enjoy Root.
- The Keepers In Iron - Warriors who have journeyed into the woodland in search of ancient relics. Head-to-toe in armour, these creatures know how to battle but they require maintenance to keep them active. Which means keeping your network of caravans and waystations preserved.
- Lord Of The Hundreds - This faction is known to spread chaos between the inhabitants of the forest, claiming to be the true prophets of the woodland. With classic mobs, they are able to take down their enemies by overwhelming their defences. Like Prince John from Robin Hood, this faction can loot items from those less fortunate to grow their dominion over the woodland.
With new factions, the world of Root is growing at a fast pace, giving you the chance to play the game your way. Root: The Marauder Expansion provides the opportunity to engage in new conflicts within the woodland with Hirelings. These powerful little allies work as a small faction to add more strategy and power combinations to the game.
If you are new to Root, the base game is very simple and easy to pick up for those who are looking to explore the Woodlands with friendly and whimsical anthropomorphic animals by your side. However, each expansion adds new content and mechanics to the game.
The Kickstarter has already been funded with 11 days to go, with lots of add-ons and extras including the Clockwork Expansion 2 and a plush of the infamous Margot the Marique.

I really am tempted with the root game but I don’t think my mates will go for it but from the game reviews I’ve seen the original root game and add ons look great
Playing this with a group that are on board with it is beneficial. As sometimes picking up the mechanics for replayability makes the game so much easier when its the same group.
I adore this game and all its expansions, and if you wanted to play it on your own, there is always the chance to go up against the AI and bots in The Clockwork & Riverfolk expansions. But is sooo much more fun when your opponents are human!
