River Horse Bringing Terminator Genisys: Rise Of The Resistance To Kickstarter
April 6, 2018 by brennon
A new cooperative board game set within the Terminator universe is coming to the tabletop from River Horse Games and Lynnvader Studios soon. The Kickstarter launches on April 9th for Terminator Genisys: Rise Of The Resistance.
You will be playing as the remaining elements of humanity, fighting against the forces of SkyNet. The game is promising to be an awesome narrative and story-driven campaign as you play through linked missions.
"Join Kyle Reese and John Connor fighting for the future of mankind. Players will do everything from rescuing prisoners to dealing with infiltrators, from gathering weapons and supplies to taking part in the final assault against SkyNet’s secret weapon, The Time Machine."
As well as all of the game tiles and other board game components you'll also find miniatures for each of the different characters you'll play as and of course your enemies too. Lynnvader is behind the mechanics of this game with artwork by Steve Argyle adorning the front of the box.
This looks like a neat condensed experience for your tabletop and if you are a big Terminator fan this might be one to keep an eye on.
What do you think?

As long as Connor isn’t the ” surprise ” bad guy by the end of the game, it should be ok.
Do you the mean the ‘surprise twist’ that they gave away in the movie trailer? Thought that was a release that they did that.
Although now think it was an interesting end to the series that John Connor was ultimately finished off by Doctor Who
Is this connected to/compatible with their previous effort, or is it an all new thing?
Looking at the dice I would say totally different – in fact I would say this is a way to repurpose assets River Horse already have to create a stand alone product.
That said, I will probably jump in on this because the franchise is something I still enjoy no matter how non-sensical the movies get!
Sadly for me the IP was “Terminated” with Genesys.
The third movie had terminated my interest in the franchise. It got a bit too silly IMHO.
As a concept I love the idea of the future as presented in the movies, but they never made it interesting as a setting.
Aw no, base it on the first two movies actors, not the lameos from Genysis! Even James Cameron is abandoning the Genisys and non-Cameron made sequels.
It’s The Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgement Day that the fans like the most. Their wargame based on Genisys died on it’s arse, so why follow it up with A Genisys themed boardgame? Unless they’re making the most of the license until it expires, which might make sense.
The idea of the game itself sounds good, but Genisys is putting me off.
I think it is very much a case of ‘this is the license we’ve got, let’s make use of it’ situation. Thing is, as Genisys includes the T2 time period, they can still include some of that.
I’d argue that the problem for their skirmish game was not the license, but the fact that the genre itself is very crowded and they didn’t have anywhere near the marketing to get noticed (never mind the lack of movie/tv series to keep the buzz going).
Heck, I wonder if Star Wars Legion has a chance to survive past its introduction year…
the flyer models look good.
