Restoration Games Bringing Crossbows & Catapults Back!
June 13, 2023 by brennon
The classic game, Crossbows & Catapults, is coming back to the tabletop thanks to Restoration Games! A Kickstarter is coming up (very) soon allowing more folks to dive into this two-player clash where it's all about smashing down your opponent's castle!

Live On Kickstarter Now
Restoration Games have brought some great games back to the tabletop already like Fireball Island and Dark Tower. They are looking to give the same glamourous upgrade to Crossbows & Catapults with not just one version on the way but two!
The first of the sets is Castle Battle and this will be published alongside the folks from Goliath. This will be the mass-market version of the game, designed for families and made so it's very accessible and easy to get to the tabletop.
Much like the previous edition of the game, each player builds a castle and then takes turns trying to knock over the warriors of the opposing side. Rather than rubber bands, the new version of Crossbows & Catapults will feature spring-powered and pinch-to-fire technology meaning that you're relying more on player skill and you'll have fewer projectiles flying off into the shadowy corners of the living room.
As well as Castle Battle, there is also the more "grown up" hobby version of Crossbows & Catapults on the way called Fortress War.

The Fortress War edition features detailed Mercenary miniatures for you to add to your games alongside a deck of asymmetrical tactics cards which allow you to take special actions and add mercenaries to your battles. These then provide additional unique abilities that can help you in the heart of battle. You'll also get more components for making larger, intricate and varied structures that you'll have to best with your weapons.
There is currently a sign-up form that you can check out which will let you know when the campaign is live. It shouldn't be long!
Could you be tempted by a new edition of Crossbows & Catapults?

I spent hours playing this game as a kid. No idea what happened to my set but very Interested to see what they do to the components. The Ogre and Minotaur were particular favourites of mine.
I used to love this game as a kid. I guess it was the first wargame I played without thinking about thats what it was. I dont have any kids to play this with but I might produce one just to have an excuse to get it.
Like the others here his was possibly my first ‘toy soldiers’ game, hours of fun
Why do I see @warzan buying lots of these!
My best mate had a copy of the original in the late 80s, we’d spend hours playing that on the floor of his toy room. Such fond memories. Which I guess is what they’re counting on…
Ooh I don’t remember this game.
My cousin had that game and it was great fun. At the UK Games Expo we picked up a copy of Castle Feud and have been playing that almost every day since with the kids.
Traded away the old Vikings version, because I got all the Weapons and Warriors sets, and Battlefield: Crossbow and Catapults sets! Did anyone really play with the turn rules? You just set up the castles and played “real time” with discs and bricks flying all over the place! Ballista was devastating on smooth floors.
