Avalon Hill Releases Updated Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition
October 27, 2017 by stvitusdancern
Think back to what was your first experience to a war boardgame based on WWII, for many of you it will be Axis and Allies by Avalon Hill.
Over the years there have been many iterations of the game and they have all been pretty enjoyable. About ten years ago they published an anniversary edition that was the biggest game yet to date.
Skip ahead ten years and here we are we a newly updated and refreshed 2nd edition of Axis and Allies Anniversary Edition.
They have streamlined the rules some and made it a little easier for new players to get into the game. The game board is still massive at twenty-four by forty-six inches.
There are also 650 game pieces along with the addition of the Italians for the Axis player and China for the Allies. Where the changes really are is within the pages of the rulebook which includes all of the errata for the past nine plus years all into one volume for easy reference.
So, if you are into your epic wargames you definitely need to take a look at this one.
What is your favourite edition of Axis and Allies?

A classic – but do I need another copy, I just might
I certainly know a few people who will be tempted by this 🙂
bet ol’@oriskany will have a copy or two pre-ordered 🙂
Fantastic game and this version had some great changes could be time for my own copy.
I have an old old old version, this just may be the new version to get the game going again. Thanks for this update.
never played this is this as good as or better than risk.
They are different games @zorg this is much more in depth with economy and technology development. I personally find it more engaging and tactical, but it is a ‘heavier’ ruleset without going to super in-depth rules. Very much in line with Shogun if you ever played that?
But as good as, better if you like more depth.
thanks sounds interesting.
I lost my doubled up copy 8 years ago in a move, definitely getting this.
But, but, what about Panzerblitz, Panzer Leader, Arab-Israeli Wars? Could we see anniversary editions of those? Maybe a Cold War version of the system? Pleeeeeeeeeeease!
Actually, I have all @oriskany ‘s files, so I might even be better off 🙂
I think they would make a few quid out of Squad leader too.
@bigfatfred Maybe on the orginal, but not much on the silliness that came later. After Cross of Iron we spent more time with our heads in the rules than we did playing!
Fair one – I only have SL and Cross of Iron. I never had any issues with those two.
Interesting that this is being launded just as the creator of A&A has launched a kickstart campaign for his new ga.me War Room. There have been various versions of this released over the years, the one we tend to play is a version the whole world version that was released in two separate parts the War in the Pacific and the War in Europe and Africa This is a titanic game and adds France, Italy, ANZACS, China to the game as playable factions. it is so much more in depth
