PWork Wargames Release New Board Gaming Mat Designs
July 30, 2019 by brennon
With Gen Con just around the corner, there will be a lot of folks getting stuck into some board and card gaming. Well, PWork Wargames has been tinkering around with two more mat designs which have been designed for those doing just that.
The two mat designs they have been working on is the Paint It Black one and The Old Inn. Paint It Black gives you (you guessed it) a plain black playing surface in neoprene which has been designed to be a nice neutral background for all of your board and card games. At 4x4 it should hold most smaller games and also makes picking up cards that much easier too!
The second mat would be good for games like Journeys In Middle-earth and Gloomhaven as well as proper roleplaying games too. The Old Inn gives you another 4x4 playing surface which looks like you're playing your games or planning adventures in a fantasy tavern.
Both are nifty designs and may be worth snapping up if you want to try and make your gaming space look a little more swish. Whilst I like The Old Inn I think I'd pick the Paint It Black mat because it would be useful for a range of different games. The Old Inn seems more focused on fantasy games.
What do you make of the two new mat designs?
"I think I'd pick the Paint It Black mat because it would be useful for a range of different games..."
They look cool. But did I read that correctly that the black is neoprene and the other one is something else? oO
Both are neoprene.
Thank you very much. My think-thing on my arm-attachment-points can’t do the thinking and reading thing today for some reason…
Blame the heat! I, on the other hand, have no excuse! The second one looks nicer than my coffee table and probably cheaper than buying a new one 🙂
It’s only 21°C here so I can’t really do that. 😉
The paint it black is good and the other one can be made with a plastic sheet of mahogany from the poundshop.
Definitely something I wish there was more of, I know the market is more for wargaming but my prime request is picking up cards without clawing the table for my entire turn.
Would love to see a standard pattern with a gradient.
