Puzzle Your Way Through A Hidden City in ArcheOlogic
June 27, 2023 by brennon
ArcheOlogic is a new competitive deduction game coming out from Ludonaute later this year. This board game has you trying to uncover the secrets of a hidden city using the power of the Archeoscope!
ArcheOlogic // Ludonaute
During a game of ArcheOlogic, your turn happens when your pawn is in the last position on the Time track on the central board. From there, you will work out what kind of questions you want to ask of the Archeoscope and move your pawn based on the cost of the question. What does it mean to ask questions? You plug in different options like determining Buildings, Traps and Empty Zones and when you've turned the cogs on the device, you'll take a coded card and read the answer provided by the Archeoscope.

I love this kind of hands-on jiggery-pokery and tinkering with a component that allows you to feel immersed in the game world. The whole idea is that you're playing around with the Archeoscope and the different game tiles to work out if you've got the exact layout of the different buildings on the map. You then check this against an App or in the Rulebook and see if you've been able to deduce the correct layout.
What's interesting about the game is the competitive aspect of this deduction game. You're not working together and because you don't want to wait too long between turns, you'll want to try and work out the layout using the least amount of clues from the Archeoscope. It sounds like it could be a lot of fun, especially as you see others starting to come to moments of realisation!
Will you be having a go at ArcheOlogic?
