Pre-Order New Dark Souls: The Board Game Core Sets
September 28, 2022 by brennon
Steamforged Games are now taking pre-orders for their new Dark Souls: The Board Game Core Sets. There are two to choose from and they each offer up a new introduction to the world of Dark Souls on the tabletop. Additionally, they are also compatible with what has come before.
Dark Souls - Tomb Of Giants Core Set // Steamforged Games
The first of these sets is the Tomb Of Giants and has your heroes fighting against the terrifying Gravelord Nito and his skeletal horde. The focus has been on revisiting Dark Souls: The Board Game with a new community-driven ruleset and making sure that you can still use everything from the previous Dark Souls iteration.

The second set moves away from the terrifying undead and instead introduces you to the Painted World Of Ariamis which might actually be a little bit more frightening than the shambling undead.

This set has you battling against the fan favourite boss, Crossbreed Pricilla and the rest of the creatures that can be found within the painting.

There are three different heroes in each of the sets. In this second one, you get the Mercenary, Sorcerer and Deprived and in the first, you get the Cleric, Pyromancer and Thief. This means that you could actually get both if you wanted to dive into even more Dark Souls on the tabletop.
Make sure to dive in and have some fun with Dark Souls on the tabletop! I for one am very intrigued to see what the new rules are like as I am a fan of Dark Souls but just don't have the skill for the video game.
Are you going to be picking these sets up?

Brilliant looking figures for gaming and for gamers to tangle with.
Just a heads up to anybody who doesn’t have any experience with this game, it’s not very good. The miniatures are great and fighting the bosses can be fun, however it’s a very grindy, random, and fiddly experience. There are some updates in these new core sets, but from what I’ve seen in the Kickstarter updates they don’t address any of the issues the community has brought up.
What has changed? I know they keep talking about this “community” rule set but everything is unclear. What community helped? What are the changes?
So far the only changes they’ve shown in the kickstarter update is adding scenarios to the encounters. The example they give is an encounter where new enemies spawn every X rounds and you have to prevent them from reaching the bottom of the tile.
