Masters Of The Universe Battleground: Starter Set // Archon Studio
More details on the game can be found over on the Archon website HERE, but this offers up a fast and action-packed battle for control of Eternia. As you play, your heroes will gather fear and magical items and use the terrain to their advantage as you seek to defeat your deadly foe. Their activation system and character customisation allows you to keep diving back in to try something new.

The set comes with everything for you to get started in the game including tokens, cards, rules and some awesome plastic terrain too. It reminds me of awesome boxed games of the olden days in that regard!
You'll also find models for He-Man, Man-At-Arms, Stratos, Orko and Ram Man for the good guys...

...and then Skeletor, Evil-Lyn, Trap Jaw, Mer-Man and Tri-Klops for those who want to be evil!

I had so many of these as toys when I was younger. It certainly seems like a nice set to sink your teeth into and you'd have a lot of fun painting up the various components as you go that's for sure. I think my favourite models from the set are Skeletor and Stratos. Which ones do you like best?
It should be noted that this game is available in Europe and then within certain countries. You can check the list to see where the game is being made available over on their store page.
Are you tempted to snap Battleground up for a bit of a nostalgia kick?

Tempting, looks like it has all the ingredients of a good start set. Is this a start of a larger range, didn’t they do some previous he-man miniatures but not the game to go with them, are they playable in this?
Favourite has to be Orko
Yes the made some He-Man minis before that, but these were intended for thier boardgame Fields of Eternia which the funded on Kickstarter.
Ooh that’s a fabulous looking set of figures for game’s. An a interesting looking game to play.
No sorceress of Grayskull.?
Those look really good.
No Fisto, no deal.
No Beastman, To quote Duncan Bannatyne “I’m oot”.
I feel a bit odd about the release of this game as I backed the Fields of Eternia kickstarter which basically has the same models. It is a curious choice to release this set for retail when they have not finished the FOE product let alone started shipping. It feel like the reward for backing the kick starter is everyone else is getting the models before you do with a completely different game. I am sure there a lot of the business reasons for this but at the same time it feels like a bit of a kick in the… Read more »
The two games were created by two different studios and do not share the same assets. This game has totally different miniature sculpts than the CMON game.
It is the same models one is on a spure the other is made up already that is the only difference. Even the people from Archon on the kick starter have said this. The European version of FOE is from Archon as well so both are made by the same company. So someone in the kickstart said it feels pretty dishonest to have the kicker starter and not tell us at the time you had another product planned which would come out to retail first with the same mini’s. I understand why they did not because most people would not… Read more »
Can you link me to that post? I’m looking at the models from the skirmish game and the models from the plastic samples for FoE and they are absolutely not the same sculpts. Also, what in the world happened with this project? Archon started it, then CMON took it over? It has the CMON designers right on the front of the box. Also, the original art for Archon’s “version” of FoE has the same minis as their skirmish game. This stinks of a weird rights issue. Perhaps the rights to their sculpts and distribution of a separate game were worked… Read more »
> Also, what in the world happened with this project? Archon started it, then CMON took it over? It has the CMON designers right on the front of the box. Broadly, CMON has the USA rights, Archon has the EU rights. They’re putting out entirely different games based on the the He-Man IP, afaik. I don’t see the CMON logo on the Archon box. I doubt it matters if the same game designers worked on both CMON and Archon games. > Also, the original art for Archon’s “version” of FoE has the same minis as their skirmish game. If Beastman is a future release I’m interested. He really should have been there before Tri-Klops.
Was this ever hinted at before? Strikes me as the game many people were after and instead got two crowdfunded boardgames in different territories that weren’t that interesting.
I can see why anyone who backed the Archon boardgame might be put out by this.
> Was this ever hinted at before?
Not afaik. And I wouldn’t say that Archon knew at the time that they’d use the same sculpt in their two games.
> I can see why anyone who backed the Archon boardgame might be put out by this.
Yep. While Archon may have a good reason to reuse a sculpt, that still doesn’t mean it won’t be an issue. I’ve also seen other companies put out a new version of a game or miniature not long after the previous one.
I just want the figures! From the comments it seems I am better off waiting till it comes to retail.
