Indie Boards and Cards are on Kickstarter looking to fund a new board game based around building the most impressive city imaginable! Just not necessarily a real one.

Russia: 1787. Empress Catherine the Great is taking a surprise  trip down the Dnieper River to survey her new kingdom. This will take  her directly past your old, unremarkable village. You don’t have the  time or money to make your village impressive, but with a few pieces of timber and some strategically placed facades you could certainly make  your village seem impressive.

Potemkin Empire is a game for up to five players that mixes elements of empire building with bluffing, as you choose which of the buildings you make are real and which are fake, while trying to reveal the fakes of your opponents.

This mixture of mechanics is one that really appeals to me. I can't claim to be any good at bluffing games, but they are something I find a lot of fun, and mixing that with building mechanics and resource management makes the part of me that wasted his childhood on endless games of Age of Empires very excited.

The idea of build up a fake city is an interesting one and one I haven't really come across before. It just has me imagining the end scenes of Blazing Saddles.

You can find out more about Potemkin Empire on its Kickstarter.

What would you build to persuade people your town is a prosperous city?
