Petite Polymino Puzzling In Ubongo! Fun-Size Editon
December 7, 2018 by cassn
Ubongo! first debuted in 2003 and, according to the box, has currently sold over 5 million copies worldwide. Now KOSMOS have released a fun-size edition of their hit game, just in time for the festive season.
In Ubongo! players must solve puzzles as quickly as they can. At the beginning of the game, players are provided with polymino pieces and a double-sided playing cards. Players decide among them which level of difficulty they would like to play (A or B).
Players then work individually to fit exactly the correct number of polyminoes into the design on the back of their card. Each puzzle has at least three different solutions, and once one player has filled in a card, they begin counting down to zero. Whoever has completed their puzzle by the time the countdown is finished receives a point, while the player who completed their puzzle first receives two points. after eight rounds, the player with the most points wins!
Ubongo! Funsize Edition promises all the fun of Ubongo!, simply provided in a smaller package. The rules also suggest that, in family groups, adults can play without the straight yellow polymino to level the playing field between adults and children - a really useful mechanic for a family game.
I think this could be a really good Christmas gift - it's light, fun and easy to learn, and as a post-Christmas dinner game, it won't take up a lot of room on the table and most people can play easily. Head over to the KOSMOS website for further information.
