The Players Get HUGE For Mantic’s DreadBall
August 28, 2013 by brennon
Mantic Games' DreadBall has been going from strength to strength over the past few months and they think it's time to unleash some BIG players onto the pitch. See what you think of this motley crew!
While they are all very good looking I think Big Mech and Dozer are my favourites. I love that the Big Mech is charging head long down the pitch ready to smash everyone aside for that ball.
The one thing I would say against the models is that Alpha Simian looks a little like an action figure but that might just be because of the way he's been painted. To be fair though, he would have been a toy I'd be proud to own as a kid!
What do you think of these big players?

I like the fact that the Dreadball miniatures can sometimes be used for other sci-fi games, if they aren’t depicted ball in hand… they look properly armored, and they’re not in footy shorts.
These are going to be great fun to paint – really enjoyed painting Buzzcut with the slightly larger scale than the regular DB minis 🙂
Ooh wee – how cool, I really like Barricade.
I’m not too sure about Barricade… I think it’s the wheels, they don’t work for me.
I *think* I went for Barricade in the Kickstarter. This is looking both a good and bad decision.
Good: he’s even better than I’d hoped. Bad: I didn’t go for the others.
I don’t play dreadball but will still be picking some of these up
I’m on the fence about the big guys so far. The minis look great, but I’m waiting to see how they effect play. It just doesn’t feel right yet, but maybe (hopefully) the rules will change my mind. What I really want to see is the rules for more than two players because that will go a long way to helping me get some of my friends interested in the game. Kicking myself for not backing the kickstarter way back when. I’ve already spent far too much on teams, MVPs and rulebooks. I wish I’d foreseen how much I would… Read more »
Season 3 hit the printers just recently, I believe, so you should be seeing the rules for 3-6 players fairly soon as opposed to just Soon™.
I’m actually kind of surprised at how quickly these releases have come. It hasn’t even been a year since the KS ended.
Thnk god a friend of mine backed the KS. Im hitching a ride on the last survey 🙂
Every time a new wave of Dreadball minis come out I regret not jumping on the kickstarter. I can see why people are undecided about Barricade, aesthetically I like it a lot but I cant get the image of an awkward three point turn in the middle of the pitch out of my head.
I have to do a little bit of self congratulations, I backed at KS and got the whole lot, happy days. Barrcade was actually the one Big Guy I wasnt sure about at the concept stage but I think hes one of the best out of the bunch closely followed by The Mech. These chaps are going to make an already verry cool game even cooler…Now bring on DreadBall Extreme 🙂 I wonder if the chaps at Mantic will run another great KS for it?
For the Alpha-Simian I might base it on a theme from Planet of the Apes – that dark, earth colours palette.
They are all great But I have to say Dozer is my favorite. I know all this has been quickly coming out, but given other things at Mantic I would like to see a Ogre Giant character. I think one of the Ogres in Scifi Armor would be great.
