Let’s Play: Settlers of Catan
August 14, 2017 by thisisazrael
Gather round as Dawn, Giana and Az erect our settlements, grab our wood, and fool around with some sheep in Settlers of Catan, a classic of the board game world.
In Catan, we build roads, settlements, and cities through forests, mountains and fields.
We will need to trade, barter, and build wisely while dodging the thieving robber as we race each other to ten victory points.
Would you offer your wood for two sheep?

I really want to get this game, I have only ever played the downloadable app version. It seems to be one of those games that is easy to learn, but you have to have equal portions of strategy and luck to win.
Yeah, it’s a classic for a reason. A pretty good entry level game for you to get stuck into and works nicely with non-gamers etc.
And if you want a heavier version you can always chuck in Seafarers and Cities & Knights.
And for the science fiction geeks : Star Trek Catan.
Honestly I think every household should own this game rather than 4 themed boxes of Monopoly.
4 themed boxes of Catan?
I enjoy playing (badly) the Steam version and am now really tempted to get the real game if I can only persuade the family to join in.
Ah Settlers of Catan, haven’t played it in years and I alos have the one with wooden rodas and settlemts which I like much more than the newer palstic ones.
What you guys could do would be play a campaign/adventure game like Hero Quest, Dungeon Saga, Silver Tower, Imperial Assault or similiar and then play a game once or twice a month and let us see how your adventure is going.
+1 for ths idea
Nice video! Like how Az explains the game, very clear!
So … did anyone have wood for sheep ?
Great video! I haven’t played this game in years, but watching you guys just made we want to go back to it.
I do remember it sometimes being quite a frustrating game though. It seemed to happen quite often that one player would keep being the target of the robber and end up stuck and just not feeling like they were able to make progress.
I suspect that there are other good gateway games these days. Still, it is a classic (and unlike Monopoly, deservedly so).
I guess @warzan wasn’t allowed to play as he couldn’t be trusted not to snigger every time some “got wood” – it’s the same reason I’m not allowed this game
Great video, loving these let’s plays for boardgames.
