No Sam the Man for this episode? Shame.
Lets see how you guys do against this pain in the ass nemesis.
Missed Sam too 🙂 he was so great at coming up with interesting stories on the go.
aw man…if only my fights against The Hand had gone so well. At some point I was sure it was gonna be a TPK. Great seeing a game, where the Nemesis’ for once gets to be smacked around a bit (even if The Hand would just chuckle and go invisible). I would love to see a fight against The Beast of Sorrow. Haven’t encountered that lion yet myself. Besides who wanna play against that annoying bird (I serious dislike the Phoenix…come on, birdie. Erasing me from history! Really!!!)
just the thing i needed to loosen my purse strings before all those GenCon goodies hit the KD store tomorrow.
let the feeding frenzy commence
Great episode. Seriously lucky against The Hand so I think you’ve earned your contest againt the sad lion.
I was a bit disappointed with this episode as I was looking forward to one of my favourite thematic fights in the game. The showdown went as well as it did because they forgot a very important part of the fight: you do not remove AI cards when wounding the Hand, you only place the tokens on the Impossible Eyes card. If you manage to add the 12 tokens you’ll give him 1 “actual wound”, he’ll become impressed and you get to flip the card and gain Respect. The other way to win this fight is surviving all his AI… Read more »
I did wonder how it only took them an hour with fewer people. Playing with the tokens sounds insane though!
I was quite fried after 8 hours filming at that point.
I think for the next batch we record I will be just controlling the monster to keep us fair. Tracking monster, survivors, and teaching the game to a new player etc. It does a number on you.
Great vid but you played the settlement phase wrong. After nemesis encounters you don’t draw event cards or generate endeavours.
No. You are confusing Nemesis Hunts with Special Hunts. Special Hunts are when those rules apply as Special Hunts are in addition to the hunt for that lantern year.
The hand is a special showdown, so you jump straight to update death count. P83 of rulebook. Also repeated on p85 under nemesis monsters.
No. You are wrong. This is the hand as fought as part of lantern year 14 on the settlement event. It is marked by a crossed swords. It is “Special” if you choose to resist him as part of the previous settlement event “Regal Visit”
So look at how on page 161 when you resist it says “Add Special Showdown”
Did the timeline change going to v1.5? My copy is 1.5 and the hand nemesis encounter occurs year 13.
Regardless of the year, nemesis monsters showdowns are always special showdowns. P85 “special showdown” is a paragraph heading in the “nemesis monsters” rule section.
OK let me spell this out. End of Lantern year 13. There is a crossed swords and the Hand. This means the next hunt as you leave the settlement to hunt. This is a regular showdown. You still complete the settlement phase as normal. If you resist during Regal Visit for example you trigger a “Special Showdown” because it interrupts the Settlement Phase. The Special Showdown section p85 is quite clear about this. It is a section to follow in the event of Special Showdown. Not a general rule for all Nemesis Monsters. I will not be replying any more… Read more »
Thanks for explaining that I know realise where I have been going wrong. I missed the first sentence of the Nemesis Encounters section that says nemesis encounters apply when you next depart. The way nemesis encounters are listed on the settlement sheet I was regarding them as extra events that happen as I get to them moving across the lantern year: i.e. depart, hunt, showdown, settlement phase, draw settlement event, resolve nemesis encounter as special showdown, move on to next year.
Oh I hope you guys go after the Monster of Sorrow if only for it’s evocative name. This one made up for the Dung Beetle TPK.
Even if we messed up the rules somewhat (though to be fair we would have finished at close to 10pm at night if we had not sped things up a bit … eh oh well).
Yeah Beast of Sorrow. I forgot all about that. Can’t wait for that new block. If @dracs can sort out with Poots so I can get an extra lion I would love to paint up for BoW a alternate “epic” paint scheme lion.
well gamed
